Note to self - only let the GF carry stainless knives...
Re: Note to self - only let the GF carry stainless knives...
Worst thing about this is that you let your girlfriend carry a Benchmade.
WD-40 has taken off a lot of sticky residue on my knives. Have you tried that?
FWIW, I had guests at my house a couple nights ago who ran a whole bunch of my cheap Ikea steak knives through the dishwasher, so I can almost feel your pain. When I opened the dishwasher and saw that I immediately started digging to make sure they hadn't put any of the good kitchen knives in there. I have two customs I'm very fond of in kitchen use and I would have been crushed if either of them had been put in there.

Washing a pocket knife is a bummer, ever accidentally washed a pocket flashlight?

I always use CRC to remove any adhesive residue (and a quick spray under each armpit).

My brother just found his long-lost kershaw, still clipped into a pair of winter pants that he'd washed early last spring and put away for the summer. Good news is I gave him my para3 lw to try out while he was knife-less, and now he's a convert!

brake cleaner is harsh?
Steel... brake clean... it ain't gonna hurt the knife, I promise. That’s pretty much all I use to clean adhesive and crap off my knives. Maybe some carb/throttle body cleaner, it’s a little more oily though.

You can also try abrading it away with a paste of baking soda and water or something like Flitz. Neither will hurt the knife, but avoid getting them in the pivot area.

Ugh I wish I could get her as into my spydies as she is with that thing... BUT hey I think she (and I) could do worse lol.TomAiello wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2019 12:17 pmWorst thing about this is that you let your girlfriend carry a Benchmade.

I used to have a carbon Opinel in my kitchen for paring tasks, until my roommate ran it through the dishwasher... now it’s stainless only

Not sure about availability in the US but Eucalyptus Oil dissolve any adhesive reside on contact. :)

I need to remember all the “essential oils” from young living my wife orders. Perhaps there is a use for them after all...

Another recommendation to give WD40 a try. It has worked well for me to remove various blade residues.
