Which Spyderco do you like best for prying with the tip???

This is not something I normally do, but I may give it a try soon.

Are the stainless out and is this best left to carbon/tool steels? Which blade grind? etc etc

Folder: PE Pacific Salt. Pacific Salts have stout tips, and the PE is thicker at the tip than the SE version. H1 is one of the tougher steels Spyderco offers.

H-1 will bend but it will not break. And you can always bend it back. It's extraordinarily resilient.

Thats almost a no brainer, shaman. Just to be clear, I do not own the tuff model but handled it and that would be a solid candidate too if you can get one

I wouldn't recommend using a top quality knife of any kind for prying. However if it was an emergency I would use the one I'm carrying right now. And that's my C-46 Lum Tanto folder. The spine on this folder is so thick that I think it would take an awesome force to do any damage to that blade.

I was gonna say lum tanto too! But I think close second would be Assist followed by Atlantic salt.

To speak generally... while a knife is the wrong tool for the job if its going to happen theres a few common factors.
A fixed blade will probably be better than a folder. Not always but alot of times yes.
Thick blade stock is always going to help.
What blade material matters as well. Will it bend or break?
Then comes blade geometry. You need a robust tip, sabre grind or frankly alot of the others are probably going to be better than flat grind with a distal taper.
Then comes the rest of the construction of the knife and whether it will handle it.
Seems like the more you try and turn a pocket knife into a pry bar the worse it becomes at being a knife. Its a hard balance to strike in knife design. I guess Im saying when I see it done right I appreciate the design.
If your asking which spyderco folders are better at it then im going to say Shaman, sabre ground endura 4, and whatever h1 salt series knives have the thickest blade stock. So atlantic and pacific salt, which are also sabre ground. Assuming the linerless frn on those salts is actually as tough as everyone says it is.

I think the sabre grind tips are noticeable stronger than even the Shaman tip (though the Shamen technically is a sabre grind too I guess)

I got so caught up in the prying part of the question that I wasnt drawing the distinction of the with the tip part.
As there can be a big difference between prying with the tip and prying with the entire blade and leveraging all that force through the handle.
When I think prying with the tip my mind goes right to paint can lids. I thing thats a pretty good bar to set. Some tips can handle that and some cant.
With that in mind, after the correct answer of a flathead screwdriver, Im still going to say Shaman, sabre ground endura, and whatever h1 salt you like to beat on.

Rock Lobster would be OK for some light prying without snapping the tip, but if the internet finds out they'll hunt you down...

Byrd Rescue 2. Pry open a paint can (or d*** near anything) without worry. What a work knife. Stout sheepsfoot sabre grind. Strong design, cheap, reliable, great performer (spyderedge).

I was going to say get a Byrd so you can replace it for less than the cost of a Lynch pocket clip.

Techno tip is pretty beefy too.
