Taught my wife how to use the Sharpmaker

#1

Post by Doc Dan »

I bought a Sharpmaker not long ago. I had been using other good, but more complicated systems. The Sharpmaker is brilliantly simple. Anyway, I was sharpening several knives and my wife happens by and I told her how simple it was. She said, “Can I try?” So I had her go get her two Dragonflies. I showed her how to set up the Sharpmaker and how to hold the knife. I held her hand for a number of strokes till she got used to it and she said “Let me do it.” She went through the brown and white stones for each knife. They will now pick up hair and cut it with no effort. She said, “That was easy!”

I was surprised. She loves her Dragonflies, though she does have some others. But, the Dragonflies are the ones she carries. She is not big into this stuff because she was not raised with it. But she learns fast.

She has never done anything like that. I’m proud of her.

I remember when she petitioned Sal for a purple Dragonfly and Sal wrote to her that he’d see what he could do. It thrilled her so. Now she’s attempting the Sharpmaker.

That’s really cool, Doc!

You’re wife sounds like a champion. :)

Mine has no interest in knives whatsoever. If I asked her if she wanted to learn how to use my SharpMaker she’d laugh at me, call me an idiot (something I’d strenuously deny) and ask me how I might feel about being stabbed. Ah, hahaha!

I’m sure Sal already had it planned. His wife carries one. But the fact that he took the time to respond to her thrilled her to no end. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=67381&p=1013920&hil ... D#p1013920

It really is awesome how Sal - and so many spyderco collaborators- take the time to respond to people and be involved in this forum. I'm continually amazed.

I showed my wife how to use the lawn mower years ago. She cuts the grass all the time now.

It's great isn't it! And I did't' even have to teach her!
I still do the sharpening but..
I'm hoping I won't have to sharpen nearly as many knives once the counter puppy comes out.
