White Handle

Curious why all the Spyderco blades have a set color. If I can I always buy a new Knife with a Slick white handle. This makes the blood easy to wash off and the knife easy to see if its dropped.

Hi Daddyflea,

Welcome to our forum.

We generally use set colors for certain steels to distinguish them by the steel. We haven't done many with white handles. We did a NASA display model years ago with a white handle for an artist. We currently have an Ivory handle on the straight spine stretch, which is more of a test.

What is a test, the handle color or the "PM2 blade"? :)
IMO, the blade takes away the character of the Stretch, but i will add until actually trying one that it's visually.

I've been crying for white G10 forever!
One of these days I'll get one...

I'm going to have to check out the Stretch's Ivory.

Hi Larry,

We're testing the blade shape. The color just to make it different. I think the blade shape thing is more of an "eye" thing than a "function" thing. Maybe we'll learn something.

To me, on my iPad the straight spine Stretch looks tan.

The light grey scales of my cruwear Para 3 got dirty after 2 days of carry.
A white one will be worse.

It's difficult to prevent color bleeding into white FRN when molding and getting a pure white blend in the first place (same goes for G10). It'll discolor easily due to anything from UV, grease, and skin oils, to the dye in your jeans, and dirt from use.

Sure, it looks nice and I agree it does (I like my white FRN Dragonfly and Delica a lot).
But Spyderco is about functionality before the pretty-factor.
A better option would be white or ivory micarta; which I'd definitely prefer above FRN and G10, is more durable, and doesn't pick up color as easily.
(probably won't happen anytime soon on larger models due to the current lightweight trend though)

An eagle has talons.
We, have Spyderco.

Yes, i suppose it would be a "Pepsi challenge" to distinguish it from the old Stretch cutting something in the dark.
Don't mind me, i'm an old luddite :)

I use yellow all the time. What’s the difference? If it gets dirty, you take a toothbrush to it. FRN is easier to keep clean than G10.

I prefer white handled users, turning brown from use. ;)

Then you clean them and repeat the process.

I also enjoy the dirty handle look on my light grey Para 3 Cruwear. I'll love to have a white handled Spydie.
