I have to say it cuts well though. One of my tests is cutting a slice of my favorite block of sharp cheddar, which is very crumbly with a thick knife usually. The Shaman cut it cleanly. That was a nice surprise, given the thickness. Then again, I’m not surprised that a Spyderco cuts well. :spyder:

Mine has already darkened a noticeable amount just from carrying and handling it. I haven't even had a chance to really use it so it doesn't seem to take much to darken the micarta, or maybe I just have oily hands.

I was playing with it the other day when I got home from work and I passed out with it in my hand. Woke up some time later and it’s definitely a few shades darker now, haha!

Does that complexity decrease the simplicity? Not at all.

You can see some splotchyness on mine already from the oils in my hand and maybe some from cutting up greasy chicken tenders for my son.

They’re not really findable yet Tom. They’ve only trickled out so far like 10 at a time here and there. Just fortunate timing. The real drops are coming though.

Black G10/S30V = 148.6 grams
Jade G10/M4 = 147.9 grams
CF/S90V = 140.0 grams
Micarta/Cruwear= 138.6 grams

Didn’t really expect that. :)

Hey Darby, what's the thickness behind the edge on yours ? Thanks

Hi elena86.
There is a BTE thread here. Titled - Behind the edge database!
Usually when a new knife is released, someone will add it to the ongoing list there. :)

Spyderco Shaman Cruwear/Micarta C229MPCW Date Code 'FS'.

Blade thickness - 0.1455"

Behind the edge thickness (BTE)
Half inch from the tip - 0.026"
Mid-blade - 0.025"
Half inch from the plunge grind - 0.024"

It's pretty significant how dark the "body side" of mine is getting. It seems to be darkening more from moisture from my body being in my pocket than from my hand, which would seem to be more of the other side since I'm right handed. The contoured part shows the most noticeable change.

This is one of the things I love about micarta: it develops an aged, worn in look that I think adds character and makes every knife look unique.

Yeah like I said in another post I'm not sure how others feel about the consistency of the texture on these but I like mine a lot more than some of the perfectly uniform ones I've seen. It just makes it feel more unique to me. It's kind of funny because I would be super unhappy with irregular carbon fiber patterns but the way micarta takes a patina is part of the fun for me so the more weird it is starting out the better I like it.

I have a few tan micarta knives. I put a thin coat of mineral oil on them. It darkens them and the color stays consistent.

Me too. Appreciate the heads-up, Mm1313.
I've been wondering when more of these would start to come out. Seems like the longest I've observed between initial release and more broad availability.
