Choose my knife (or my fate) for 4 days!
Hey guys and gals, I’m a new member here, but a long time lurker... probably close to a decade. I figured this would be a fun thing to do with y’all.
As the title says, 1 week from today, I’ll be leaving for 4 days and going to the middle of nowhere. No phones, no radios, no TVs or computers. No running water, no electricity. The closest paved road will be about 20 miles away and still no reception there.
So all that goes to say, I’m going to let a bunch of strangers on the internet choose what folding knife I take. This knife will do everything I need a knife to do during that time.
I will have a DMT diafold coarse/fine sharpener with me in my backpack.
I leave exactly 1 week from today. Whatever knife is in the lead on the poll at that time is what will be my companion for this trip. I’ll do my best to take some pictures along the way and post when I get back... obviously I can’t do it there!
Have fun choosing my knife for the trip. My fate is in your hands... let me know what you pick below!

For what you are doing, the Pacific Salt SE. I always use it as my outdoor folding knife. Takes a beating and keeps going. I would also suggest that you take a durable 4-6" fixed blade knife.
Re: Choose my knife (or my fate) for 4 days!
I’ve been there before and I’ll be with 2 other people.
I know what I would choose... but I’m gonna have some fun and do whatever the poll shows!

I’m not looking for advice, this is purely for fun and curious to see what y’all pick.
I picked these 5 because each one is capable of doing great and I’d be comfortable in any situation with any of them

Voted Endura, since I KNOW from experience it will serve you well.
Pac Salt SE slso a good option just from what I heard. But serrations probably harder to sharpen on your stone?? (And not a sharpmaker)

Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Re: Choose my knife (or my fate) for 4 days!
They can go a lot longer than 4 days between sharpenings :D
Re: Choose my knife (or my fate) for 4 days!
I figured the endura, military and SE pac salt would be the top 3... so far I’m not surprised.

My vote is always for a Military. For me, it has always been the most versatile knife for excursions out and about. Choke up on the blade if you need to for smaller tasks, slice the hades out of whatever you need at camp, peel an apple or make a sandwich. It is my favorite Spyderco design. If you are going to field dress game, any liner lock falls to the bottom of my vote.
Do right always. It will give you satisfaction in life.

Re: Choose my knife (or my fate) for 4 days!
My gut instinct would be the SE Pacific, since it's only 4 days you probably won't even dull it in that time. However, I always consider the worst case scenario, what if 4 days turns into a month of survival? In that case, and considering the sharpening tool you're taking with you, I'd go with the PE Pacific. If you had to get into any real Bushcraft type stuff or skin an animal for food, I'd rather have PE for that.
Really though there's absolutely no way I'd go with just one knife so I'd take both edge types. Redundancy is the name of the game. Two is one, one is none.

All SE all the time since 2017

if the poll comes up SE pac salt then I’ll take a smiths tapered diamond rod with me instead of the Diafold.

I chose the PE Pacific Salt. Want to know how many sharpenings you have to do in the four days.

As much as you love the Pac Salt SE, seems like an easy choice to me! Coupled with an Alox Pioneer and you’re set for whatever comes your way!

Find a Shaman before you go! If not the Military would come second.

Re: Choose my knife (or my fate) for 4 days!
I think I would want the largest blade I had if I was out for 4 days, so I voted military. Look forward to the photos, stay safe.
