I understand this as a promotional item, but, otherwise, it makes no sense to me.

Willie B is a radio station host, with the radio station being Denver, Colorado's own 107.9, KBPI. Spyderco did a Manix a few years back with black/red scales and 107.9 engraved into it with a similar to this, but slightly more subdued, laser engraving on the blade. Personally, I wouldn't pay to get a radio station promo on my knife.

Not really sure if this is a charity thing or someone at Spyderco is just a huge fan. I do love the combo blade though!

I don't pay money to advertise for people, lol.

How much are they going to pay me to carry it?

Willie B is a great guy who is also a passionate Spyderco user. He does a lot for the Denver-area community and various charities, so he is the only radio personality with whom we do special marketing efforts. We chose the Native because it has a long history and proudly represents our USA-made line.

For those who listen to Willie B and KBPI, investing in a Spyderco knife like this is similar to putting a KBPI bumper sticker on your car. It shows support for something you enjoy and in which you believe. If that's not you, please just accept it as one aspect of our marketing efforts.

Stay safe,

Thank you jabba and Michael for explaining that.

I figured y’all were gonna get in trouble for tagging on sal’s or someone’s favorite morning radio show :p ;)

I have wondered if he, or someone at the radio station, isn't connected to the Glesser family in some manner. It seems like a pretty unusual and expensive radio promo to me, and now there apparently are two.

I like the idea behind it but I'm not a fan of lots of logos on my blade.

jdw,
No, no one here (Glessers included) is connected to Willie B or anyone at KBPI. Although, I guess you could say that we're all connected to Willie B on some level after doing multiple promotions with him over the past several years.

Willie B is a beloved local celebrity who does some fantastic things for the community in the Denver metro area. His show on KBPI is broadcast locally on 107.9 and nationally on iHeartRadio. He is also the co-host on Two Guys Garage on Speed network. As Mike mentioned above, Willie B is very passionate about our products, our crew, and our company. He truly gets our culture and believes in what we do.

At the most basic level, this is simply a marketing promotion, but for Willie B and his audience, it's an excellent opportunity and for us, it's a lot of fun.

Kristi

This obviously isn’t being marketed to the general public. We’ve now had two representatives from Spyderco tell us that it is a basic promotional product for a local radio station.

Personally, I’m glad to see Spyderco continuing to support their local community.

While everyone is entitled to an opinion, some of these reactions are unwarranted.

Knives have been advertising tools for many decades, do an ebay search for advertising knife... Don't like it, don't buy it. Fan's of the show or the guy will probably buy these and maybe Spyderco gets some new knife nuts out of it. Don't see why there are people with such negative over-reactions to a basic marketing strategy.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)
