Lost my loved, treasured, cherished D'allara 3 last summer (Southern Hemisphere) and have sulked a bit since, house sale and purchase and big mortgage limiting $ and effort for knives. out of the blue I decided to jump on the search this morning, and found it on the discontinued. urgency and a discount and I'll have a D'allara in my pocket again in a couple of weeks :-). I'll still miss the old one

Sal, best folding pocket knife I've used - thank you

Ehhh... Mantra 2 on the way, I'm not really psyched for the flipper aspect, but handle and blade shape are both features I liked from day 1, as well as M4 being a steel I don't hate ;)

so was the k11s cooks knife. Didn't stop me from picking up a couple on super clearance just now.
I wonder if there has been stock sitting there for the past year? Or perhaps Spyderco made one or two more batches but were planning to discontinue starting last year?

I received my Advocate. It is the CQI variant. Woohoo!

I have only had a few minutes to check it out, but I am impressed. It is smooth as butter and perfect in every way. Thanks KnivesPlus!

My advocate just arrived and yes, glint of bronze in there. It’s the cqi version. Date code on box is AR. Pivot needs a little oil but otherwise it’s really nice.

I am sorry if i am asking a question asked 100 times before, but what was done in the CQI update? Wasn't that thrilled about the Advocate before, but today a LNIB one turned up this side of the pond i just had to buy :)
(More specifically, what date code/s did they start the "good" run, and again, how can i spot it visually if at all?

They updated the washers and bearings in the pivot. The Cqi will have bronze washers in the pivot. Mine is hard to see but I can see it with a little light in the pivot. The older ones had smaller bearings with non-bronze washers. Kristi said that the date code was not a reliable way to tell. Looks like the change was around LP or so.

I received my Advocate the other day and it is a fantastic knife.

It probably won't stick around, though. The problem with it in my rotation is that it's competing against my Mantra 1, but the size is closer to the Caribbean.

The Mantra is smaller, lighter and has a wire clip. It still sits firmly in my medium/dressy knife slot.

In the large knife/tool slot, the Caribbean is too perfect for it to match.

The Advocate is stuck in a weird limbo between, not enough to depocket the Caribbean and too much to displace the Mantra 1.

This is in no way saying the Advocate is not a good knife, it is. However, it doesn't quite fit in my personal rotation. It looks like it's moving to the sell/trade fodder pile with so many others.

The wire clip would have been perfect for the Advocate IMHO.

Anybody that has the GB2 and Advocate, does the Advocate feel pretty similar in hand?

They are similar is size, balance, and contour along the top of the knife in your palm, but also different (finger grip).

That’s a good looking blade. I’d like to see it in a non-flipper with g10 scales and full recessed liners (like the para3). I don’t get along well with all metal handles.

Honestly, this one for $200 ($180 at BHQ) is an absolute steal and probably a better deal than the Advocate for $155!!!

Seriously, the Magnitude is a beautiful knife! Solid contoured CF and the flipping action was phenomenal on the example I saw. I really need to get on ordering one of those asap. I will regret missing out on those at that price!
