Not to be a jerk, but that K390 edge and bevel appear to be in mint condition...

Re: Bento Box Something Something....
No offense taken...it's only cut up a few boxes so far, and is still carrying the factory edge which I suspect will probably last for a while. I didn't mean to insinuate that I had put K390 through it's paces yet at all...just that I was super glad to get it in the PM2 platform (this is my first experience with K390).
Time will tell, but the reason I am excited about it and the reason I jumped on it when it came out, is that I expect it to perform at a level that I don't currently have in my collection (we'll see if that is the case).
I work in an office these days, and my knife using/appreciation/collecting has long preceded my move into an office environment. Everything gets used, everything gets rotated...
Is this better?
So it goes.
Re: Bento Box Something Something....
I totally understand. Office use definitely makes it difficult to put a knife through its paces. It's a steel I'm very intrigued by, but have yet to take the plunge on. Waiting on a couple particular models to provide the opportunity.
I've seen/read so many people loving it but with no evidence or reviews of use. Not that anybody needs to do so, but I'm just eager to learn! Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it. Again, I'm not always the best with words, but meant nothing bad towards you with my post.

For those who have been using K390 do you think that it's better to force a patina or to let one develop naturally? I have done both. I forced a patina with 52100 and have let patina develop naturally with M4. Both with good results.
Do right always. It will give you satisfaction in life.

Re: Bento Box Something Something....
That's a good question, and I really think that, as you seem to suggest, the answer is "either way." It is possible that the choice hinges on how much one considers oneself a "purist" who would never dream of forcing a patina, or if one simply likes the effects that can be obtained from forcing a patina. Again, as you seem to suggest, good results can be had either way, so I'd say go with what's fun for you!

Re: Bento Box Something Something....
I would force it if I'm close to abusive conditions but under normal use if do it natural I like the randomness
S30V, VG10, M4, XHP, BD1, Cruwear, Elmax, Maxamet, 204P, H1, K390, A11, Rex45, LC200N, M390, 20CV, BD1N, S45VN waiting to afford MagnaCut
Re: Bento Box Something Something....
I have only been using K390 for a short time, and I am definitely not an expert on knife patina, but I am going to allow mine to develop naturally. I haven’t gotten the knife into anything that has caused any discoloring yet.
The only knife that I have forced a patina on is a Super Blue blade. It turned the blade to a very dark rust color and created a couple of raised rust spots that I could see and feel with my finger. The blade though has stayed at that same level of patina for years now. I think that Super Blue is a whole different animal from K390 though.

Re: Bento Box Something Something....
Bought my first Spyderco, a black Grasshopper a couple of
months ago. Was very impressed with how solid it felt.
Seemed to be an excetional value. Told a friend about it
and had been looking at other Spyderco knives with the
Bohler K390 blade, they sounded great. So when my friend
ordered up a K390 Delica. I had to get a K390 Endura. Was
very happy with it. A big step up from the Grasshopper.
But looking at knives led to more looking at knives,
videos on youtube, this forum. Everyone is probably
familiar with the symptoms.
The one that stuck in my head was a Paramilitary 2 with
K390 at Bento Box Shop. I was basically looking at every
knife Spyderco made but kept coming back to the PM2. The
problem was that BBS doesn't do international sales and
I'm in Canada. Made contact with them and they were
understandably worried about it being seized at the border.
What followed was about forty hours of researching how
can it be shipped from California to Canada and what are
the chances of it being held up or seized by CBSA.
So I found a repackaging firm out of New Hampshire, signed
up and got an address there. Checked out 3 or 4 others
but Stackry worked very well. Had to clear with the bank
and BBS for the different shipping and billing addresses.
Finally, went to the BBS site, clicked Add to cart and it
said "Sold Out No Longer Available". Immediately fired off
an email to the effect of "Say it ain't so" to BBS and
they replied that yes, they're sold out BUT they saved one
for me. That was pretty close.
After about 10 days it cleared customs with no issues and
just arrived here today. I won't break it down as to what
the costs were for the exchange, shipping from CA to NH,
repackaging costs, shipping from NH to me, HST (federal and
provincial tax), duty, brokerage fee, not counting the man
hours in research. I'm probably safe in saying I got the
world's most expensive PM2-K390 but the important thing is
I got it. And have a hard to believe story as well.
Might have gotten the last one. Does anyone out there know
how many were made? Or is that a secret?
Was very satisfied with the service received from Bento Box
Shop, Stackry and DLH. Would recommend them to anyone who
is interested. And very thanful to Spyderco for making
such great knives.

Free Torx head screws with every knife you buy!
Re: Bento Box Something Something....
Congrats!!! That is a lot of effort and risk and cost on your part; hope it turns out to be everything you hoped for.
A reminder to us in the U.S. how good we do have it when it comes to getting a Spyderco. So many belly-ache and moan about BBS pricing and shipping costs, as well as missing out on highly sought after sprints that ultimately become easily had on the secondary market (at inflated prices of course).
I did notice BBS is drying up on their exclusives... their PM2 and their D4. I also noticed some offerings had price increases about two weeks ago. Will be interesting to see what BBS does next.

Re: Bento Box Something Something....
Thanks for all the replies. And yes, when I read or hear someone complaining they had to pay $15 for shipping, I think wouldn't that be great, JUST $15. Noticed last week there was a DLT exclusive PM2
that sold out in just a few hours, and yet this one was available for a year and a half. Still trying to figure out how that works. For me, Bento Box Shop were very reasonable and helpful.
