Rusty Waterway - Your Thoughts
Rusty Waterway - Your Thoughts
I think the Waterway is a very versatile, practical and definitely a corrosion resistance knife which got me to thinking what would it be like if it wasn’t so corrosion resistant?
I’d welcome a tool steel version of the Waterway and would be interested in hearing your thoughts. :)

Re: Rusty Waterway - Your Thoughts
No thanks, I have no desire for more non-stainless knives. Which is not to say Spyderco should not do it if they think sales would support it. Although, given that the Waterway is a Salt series knife, offering it in a non-stainless steel might lead to confusion. Perhaps the similarly sized and shaped Gayle Bradley Junction, which already uses tool steel, might be a better candidate for one or more of those steels.

Yes, I certainly understand how a non stainless Waterway retaining the same name could cause confusion. The Junction would certainly be an alternative but being a discontinued model I doubt we could resurrect it.
The Waterway being a current model and such a versatile design leads me to think a tool steel version may generate some interest, but who knows? Hopefully we’ll get some sound feedback here, one way or the other. :)

Re: Rusty Waterway - Your Thoughts
I personally don't need total rustproof steel, so: Yes!! :)
Can't remember, but isn't Rex 45 virtually the same as HAP40? If so, I'd take that (though I am one of those who really like the cladding Spydercos HAP 40 comes in, and REX 45 probably not).
Anyway I think, tool steel makes more sense in fixed blades than in folders (which does not mean that I think folders should not come in tool steels, don't get me wrong!)

Re: Rusty Waterway - Your Thoughts
I personally don’t like the idea. I like the Waterway as implemented.

Don't think it needs to be done, but I can't argue for fewer variants of a great knife even if the materials would be at odds with it's original purpose. 4v ALL THE THINGS!
Side note: all of those steels are great, so I chose based on color.

Re: Rusty Waterway - Your Thoughts
I'd be happy with the current Waterway, but I'd definitely be interested in a tough tool steel version. I voted Cruwear, but any of the options on the list would suit me. I do think a tool steel version should have a different sheath - no taco style (if kydex), no tek lok, lower carry. Maybe leather like the Bow River.

Re: Rusty Waterway - Your Thoughts
I'd be down for cruwear, but at the same we'd definitely need a name change, even for a sprint run.
Maybe Dustway?

Re: Rusty Waterway - Your Thoughts
I'd be interested in any 4v fixed blade. I think I'd prefer one of the Phil Wilson designs, but I'd buy a waterway too.
Re: Rusty Waterway - Your Thoughts
I get the draw.. I think it's a very versatile design that would make a nice platform for [insert your favorite steel]. That said, I think the rustproof aspect of the Waterway is kind of the point. You just can't call a knife made from a steel that will rust at the thought of moisture a "Waterway." I agree that a name-change would be in order.. haha an M4 Water-Away?

Re: Rusty Waterway - Your Thoughts
You could call it the Rustaway
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!
Re: Rusty Waterway - Your Thoughts
You could name it for a different terrain type. For example, a 4v version could be a "woodsway" and an m4 version could be a "desertway" or something along those lines. You could do a "cityway" or "townway", a "bushway"...

Re: Rusty Waterway - Your Thoughts
In all honesty, how could it still be considered a Waterway without the lc200n steel? I think tool steels should be put on another fixed blade design or be called something else if it were to follow the waterway design. I vote for the WOODWAY
