So as a huge Shaman fan, the upcoming St. Nick's exclusive DLC-coated 4V Shaman has my eye.
That said, my sweat creates orange rust on M4, and will still spot DLC-coated M4. It also causes film corrosion on S30v in some cases.
Strangely enough, Cruwear appears impervious to it.
Is 4V just going to make me unhappy? Where does it rank in your experience in relation to s30v or M4?
Thanks for your time!

Re: 4V corrosion resistance?
M4. Look at the chemistry
Re: 4V corrosion resistance?
If you spotted or discolored DLC on M4 you're going to have the same effect on DLC for 4V
Re: 4V corrosion resistance?
4V has better corrosion resistance than M4...it's not a corrosion resistant as Cruwear (which is a carbon steel with nearly stainless steel level corrosion resistance)..but it's not bad.

Thanks fellas! It's a handsome knife, but I don't think it would be happy in my pocket when summer arrives.

Re: 4V corrosion resistance?
The flat (non-glossy) texture of spyderco's DLC looks like it would take and hold light protective coatings of grease or oil longer than a satin or stonewash finished blade. I've noticed that even WD-40 will provide a good protective coating that lasts through a decent amount of use.
If I'm lucky enough to get the 4V Shaman I'll post pictures of corrosion and maintenance, but I'll be too scared to take it out on the water.

Re: 4V corrosion resistance?
Larrin's model (which isn't perfect, but should be as close to a reasonable expectation as you can expect barring some unforseen contribution from some chemistry or environmental condition not accounted for) puts 4V (and Vanadis 4E) just below M4 for Acetic, worse for aqua regia, and even worse for pitting:

See the table about a third of the way down.

thank you! I'm glad I'll be skipping this one.JacksonKnives wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2019 4:31 pmLarrin's model (which isn't perfect, but should be as close to a reasonable expectation as you can expect barring some unforseen contribution from some chemistry or environmental condition not accounted for) puts 4V (and Vanadis 4E) just below M4 for Acetic, worse for aqua regia, and even worse for pitting:
