Suspicious spyderco box, is it a fake?

#1

Post by Flosser11 »

Hi, I purchased a Para 3 Blurple and the knife itself looks very convincing but the box is really questionable. Has any one gotten a box like the middle one in the pictures? The bottom there is also a sticker and on other ones it's printed on the actual box. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Image

Could just be an updated box since this is a fairly new model. I don't have any like this though.

That crossed my mind at first but I also have Para 3LW which I believe is newer and it has the old box design.

I don't know but if the knife is legit I wouldn't worry about the box. You should be able to tell by examining the knife. Post pics if you need to.

My manix 2 52100 from knife works came in a box just like that, directly from KW. Don't fret, it's a legit variation. The extra sticker is probably from the distributor.

Edit: Also my hap40 wc delica has that box. Also purchased from a legit dealer.

The boxes can and do change. I wouldn't worry about the knife solely based on the box

After reading the posts here: If the knife itself looks convincing to you as you said, just stop worrying and enjoy it! :)
At least that´s what I would do

Boxes are real, judging from the enclosed pictures. I have the same differences on my Spyderco boxes and they are all bought from legitimate dealers. So don’t worry.

It’s an Amazon label sometimes signifying a return

That LPN RR barcode sticker is a return label applied by Amazon.
I would be very suspicious of any knives bought from Amazon, due to the way they organize their inventory (they dump all of the same items in one bin, regardless of the source/3rd party vendor).
So to be safe, I would never buy spyderco knives from Amazon, even if it's shipped/sold by Amazon.
Luckily, you can and should be able to easily return for a refund.
With MAP, you can buy pretty much any spyderco at the same price from many other reputable stores without worrying about fakes.

I couldn't agree more what all you said. I've had two well trusted friends that told me that they got counterfeit merchandise from Amazon in the past 3 years. Going to reputable dealers like New Graham, Knife Center, GP, or any other dealer that is well known in this forum is the absolute best way to avoid the possibility of getting stuck with a counterfeit unit. I would rather pay just a bit more through a reputable, well known dealer with a good reputation than I would to take a chance on any of these monsterous retailers from the internet.
