Yes, that's what I understood you to be saying. I've never seen or measured a CRK with a grind like that. Maybe it happens, but I do not believe it to be normal.

I can feel the edge thicken up slightly as I go from spine to edge on my Magnacut Sebenza. I’m hoping I’ll be happy with the cutting and edge thickness one I make the angles much more acute. Knowing me I’ll probably want it reground. My drop point measures ~.020” behind a 20 degree per side edge for most of it, but fattens up to .025+ and 25 degrees per side at the top. The tip bevel will look really fat with that geometry, which will make me want the regrind a little more. The Insingo probably doesn’t have such issues with the tip getting fatter, but I’ve never measured one to check.

Maybe this weekend I will break out the Ken onion and do a heavy reprofile, gosh 10 degrees from a knife that starts out around 22 degrees as my Digital level reported is a lot mine is currently at 17 degrees and that took quite a while with the TSPROF.

Worse case scenario I Frankenstein the blade and have to wait 6 months before I can buy a new one and send it into Chris Reeve for a replacement blade.

I hope you like your Magnacut if they get the heat treatment correct like Spyderco and Bark River did on my two Magnacut pieces your gonna love it.

Magnacut at 63-64 RC should be good, assuming they have dialed in the heat treat. We will see. Reprofiling on a TSProf definitely takes way longer than freehand on an extra coarse diamond stone. But obviously if your hands aren’t too steady freehand it can look a lot uglier than you’ll get on the TSProf.

I plan on taking my Small 31 Insingo/Magnacut down to 15dps here at some point relatively soon. I'll report back as well.

First sharpening of my M398 Mule on the WSPA. Don't like how the stones can't reach the whole bevel. I also don't really like the WSPA diamond plates, they seem to have quite a few stray grit particles that are too coarse for what they're rated. I saw them on the fine plate when it was new and hoped the would break off during break in. You can actually feel them as your sharpening almost like it's dirty. Not a big deal unless you're trying to get hair whittling edges. Had to finish freehand with Jende 1 micron on leather to get that sharp.

Hmm, that's strange. I've sharpened my Mule on the PA with no issues, also done filet knives that are even longer. Did you compensate by where you connected the clamp to the blade and move those rubber bumpers on the sharpening arm?

The stone holder runs into the nub so I can't sharpen all the way to the plunge.

Venev Scorpion Series stones are awesome. I'd call contact gritomatic and see when they might be getting more.

4" stone holder on gritomatic. I had the aluminium one but it wasn't very good, I ended up buying the 3D printed one (which is cheaper) and it works way better.

As for the venev stones, I'd recommand the Cerberus Dog Series. they even make combo deals. It's just often victim of its success, they restock regularly ;)
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

All knives where sharpened with the WSPA and stopped with 1 micron diamond on leather. Not the best framing but you'll get the idea.

16dps, finished on 400 grit. Gave it a 17.5dps microbevel for a change of pace as well as a few passes on the strop.

Do you strop at the microbevel angle or higher? Also what kind of strop do you use?

I'll be honest, I'm not the most consistent stropper haha. I tried to match the microbevel angle, and this time it seemed to work very well. Edge is coarse, but sticky. That strop in the photo is from KnivesPlus, I just use some green Bark River compound. Nothing super fancy for me there, since I'm not really that great at it, consistently enough.

I just touched up two of my favorite carbon blades: Manix2lw in Rex45 and Endela K390

Manix2lw fresh off the stones, no stopping, finished on F1500 diamond stone, scary sharp
Screenshot_20230217-070611_Video Editor.jpg
Endela finished on uf spyderco stone, 1/2micron diamond paste on leather, not as aggressive and keen as Manix2lw

Have you ever tried Rex45 with a toothy finish? Takes a lot less time, and cuts like like a dream!

Thanks! I've been trying for awhile, ever since seeing Michael Christy's cutting demos. Then Shawn showed off some 15v zig zagging through a paper towel like it was nothing and that really pushed me to figure it out. The Mule was my cleanest cut but I cut a few things with the other two before trying so I'm sure I could do better.

Reading the thread got me curious and I compared my Insingo Inkosi to my 31 with satin finish. Seems the satin finish. Difficult to see the markings but hope it helps some. I find the satin finish is a better slicer.
