not trying to be negative, but i’m not sure what an frn caribbean with a backlock would do for me (or spyderco) that isn’t already done by the pacific salt, especially if the lc200n ffg pacific salt ever materializes.

but i didn’t vote no. i have an open mind.

Well I've considered the same, and for me if they manage to get the edge as close to the handle as they do on the regular Caribbean it'll have more edge, and the handle has much better ergonomics. I think it would make the Pacific obsolete.

I may quote myself from my original post, concerning what would be rather unique in a "kind of backlock Caribbean", when it comes to Spyderco backlocks:

1.) No choil, no Ricasso, edge going all the way back to the handle (great closed-length-to-edge-ratio plus good for very precise work close to the hand in a regular, handfilling grip on the handle)
2.) Very neutral, wide, comfortable and handfilling handle

i understand your points. personally, i don’t see those as problems needing to be fixed with the pacific salt. i will say, however, that if it were lined g10, i think it would be more compelling as a more solid replacement for the pacific salt. i think i’d still rather have the compression lock though. and i’d also rather have a manix salt than a lw backlock caribbean. i hope we can all get our wishes. ;)

I don´t even know if I´d prefer a backlock Caribbean over the Pac Salt (I´d probably even prefer the latter for its lightweigt linerless FRN vs linered G10)

I´d just generally would like see ONE larger "main stream",ffg backlock model with an egde all the way back to the handle. You can have this feature in linerlock, comp.lock and even CBBL (forgot which models. but there are two rather unknown as far as I recall), but not backlock (except the Centofante, which has a sabre hollow grind though).

And, wes, I also hope we all get what we wish for... ;) Concerning the Manic Salt: Make it choil-less (so with a longer edge), and I´d be in for one... ;)

Lance, let me say once more: I am really looking forward to the Siren, when I said "it is not a backlock Caribbean" I did not mean that a "backlock Caribbean" would be BETTER than the Siren... just different in that the blade would go back all the way to handle (very rare with backlocks, and that´s for a reason, cause the way many people close a backlock some kind of Ricasso is a sensible safety feature!)

I would probably take the Siren over a possible backlock Caribbean, if I had to choose, cause I really like that Ricasso on the Siren (for me it is the better "choil". I can still perfectly choke up on it, but when grabbing the knife on the actual handle, the Ricasso does not tend to hang up on stuff I am cutting like a deep, dedicated choil can sometimes)

I think Vivi said it, but Chinook 4 has edge all the way to the handle and it has a power lock, which is modified backlock.

So, take the Chinook, modify the blade to leaf shape and bang, profit.
Sal, please, make it happened, I think there is a place in the market for this kind of folder.
