Vancron Superclean

Shawn keeps pushing the envelope. I'm getting concerned at this point. I feel the envelope is being abused. Keep your eyes and ears open for info on the availability of this steel. K390 on steroids??

Amazing work brother, not just in knife making but your constant ambitious dedication to performance driven quality improvement.

Thank You for sharing Pelagic!

We live in such a cool time for interesting blade steels.

Shawn if you happen to see this, just wanted to also thank you for sharing. Looking forward to the update after sharpening. Interested to see how thin you can get that edge and still have it survive your rigorous testing methods. That drive and determination is going to carry you far Sir!

In case you guys aren't familiar with Roman over at KKnives Switzerland aka KASE Knives he's the guy who sent Shawn the Vancron SC to test.

Here's a video of him showing and talking about Vancron SC.

I'm stoked to be early on Roman's list for a Vancron SC shard and for a Nitrobe 77 bushcraft knife. Looking forward to Shawn's impressions!

I asked him to put me down before he started working with it so he didn't have pricing at the time...I'll shoot him a message and get an update

I have a Nitrobe 77 kitchen knife (Big Chris). It's pretty good stuff. Very flexible, very tough, holds a very thin edge quite well.

Hi guys, thanks for the kind words! It is overwhelming to see my name appear suddenly on more and more places on the internet.
Now, about Vancron SC:
Shawn was hunting this steel for almost two years - first the now discontinued Vancron 40 and then the new, better Vancron SC but he could not get his hands on it. Then, about a year ago when I started knife making, Shawn and I quickly became friends and one day he asked me if I could get Vancron SC. Living thre kilometers away from Böhler, I just pretty much walked up to them and asked and to my surprise they agreed to sell me small quantities instead of the usual half tons. (They even visited me 2 weeks ago to see what I was doing with the steel and talk about some cool "steel stuff" with me - was a blast!) Anyways, after I had acquired Vancron SC, of course I hooked up my brother Shawn. We worked out a ht and are very happy. Here is a video of the sharpness Vancron SC can take:
https://youtu.be/IBJ_UBUXM2Y

Sadly, I had to raise the price from 460 to 480USD plus 20USD shipping for Vancron Shards since the stuff is super annoying to grind - it was desgigned to be "self lubricating" so really slippery. As I side note, I am working on folders, where this will come in handy for the action. You can find either more over my Instagram @kknives_switzerland or my (not up to date!!) website www.k-knives.com (My Instagram atm is much better to see my work - had no time to update my site yet.)

Atb from Switzerland!

Just sharpened Vancron a few times.

Gets very keen, nice and crispy. Gets sticky sharp.

No burr to battle.

The edge character is in-between K390 and Rex45/Hap40.

It's definitely on the keener side rather than the aggressive side.

Not as aggressive as K390 but more aggression than Rex45/Hap40.

Sharpens easy even at 67rc with proper abrasive and technique.

Easier to sharpen than K390 I feel (K390 is not difficult to sharpen so that's saying something)

The edge comes up stickier than Rex45.
