Which Delica gets the CF treatment?

#1

Post by awa54 »

this is a hard decision, since I like the scale colors of all the Delicas I own...

I'm leaning toward the V-Toku2, but which would you do?

I have five potential victims, plus one backup:

BRG/ZDP-189
Burnt Orange/HAP40 (there's an unused backup of this one)
Burnt Orange/HAP40 Wharncliffe
Gray/V-Toku2
Navy/M390

There's a set of Flytanium CF scales and a Ti backspacer inbound, so I have a day or three before I have to decide.

...and I need to order a polished clip for that BB/M390!

I’d use the V-Toku2 also. Spyderco makes a carbon fiber Hap40, it’s an exclusive through Fradon Lock Company.

VToku would be my first choice.

I have a Flytanium CF backspacer if you need one.

I'd go ZDP since that's the only production model you have

Thanks for the offer! I'll install the Ti one first and see if my instinct that a contrasting spacer will look good is sound, if not I may drop you a PM :D

I *knew* there was another Delica creeping around in my collection... I also have the foliage green damascus version.

now I'm leaning toward that one getting the CF scales...

On a related topic, has anyone tried a set of the brown micarta scales from the Russian ebay seller on their Delica and if so how do you like them?

I like it, the "damascus" is a bit busy and random, but still cool for what amounted to a $20 upgrade from the standard VG-10 blade, I think the dark etched area on the blade works well with the matte CF. It'll be complete when my polished clips arrive early next week (got one for the BB M390 as well).

I'm not a Delica guy, but I'd like to hijack this thread...

Are you from San Luis Obispo? I was born there and visit for at least a couple weeks every year. Is there anywhere there with a reasonable Spyderco selection?

Haha. You got me. I wasn’t born here but have lived here the last 20 years. No shops in town that I know of. I shop online.

Bummer. The only Spyderco's I've found in SLO are a handful at Mountain Air and then some Santa Fe Stoneworks models being sold at some arts shop--maybe on Higuera? I keep hoping there will be a real knife shop somewhere there...

I’m about price too. Lower the price, the more spidies I can get. Markup in this town is maximized. So I would shop online over paying high premium at a knife shop.

But back on topic. I am considering the Delica 4 HAP40 CF. I don’t have any HAP40, so I’m not sure about that one.
