I've got a friend flying to Belgium and UK... Carry options?
I've got a friend flying to Belgium and UK... Carry options?
My friend will be spending a few weeks in Belgium and the UK on business, and he would like to know what kind of knife he can carry, and how he should carry it to not run afoul of local laws.
Any suggestions?
I was thinking UKPK, Urban, or Roadie.

I've been to most European countries, but still never to the UK and to Belgium just one time and 25 years ago...
So I can't really help you, but sadly a non-locking-folder (as you listed three of anyway) will be the safest bet I guess...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Here In Belgium you will be fine with almost everything that is not an automatic as long as you use youre common wits and do not attrackt to much attention to,yourself in a railway station , footballstadium airport and such.. :) (we have very few and very grey laws that do not make sence to anyone)
Myself i even carry my k2 somedays with a dragonfly or such as back up. :)
And i do cut plastic wraps open in the store (in a discreet way ) or peel my apples when needed with people around me and i never had problems.
My brother even knows a cop that makes nothing about him carrying a knife on him at all times.
So i think as long as youre friend keeps it normal he will be okay. In the UK on the other hand i will not be so sure they have more laws in place about knives so maybe other forum members will jump in for that.

I know nothing about European knife laws but I have a hard time believing that anyone would find a Ladybug threatening.
Do right always. It will give you satisfaction in life.

Threatening or not, in my neighbourcountry Germany (I am from Austria) and I think the UK it would not be a legal carry... crazy.

Be careful in UK carry a knife is not what you think, it's strictly restricted.

I never carry in Europe. The only time I don’t have a knife in my pocket is when I am in the shower or pajamas.
Size varies, but I would avoid carry in the UK and many other European places. This is just me.

SAK works everywhere in Europe.
Re: I've got a friend flying to Belgium and UK... Carry options?
Blade length 3" or less, not locking, to carry in public in UK. Not sure about airport / flight restrictions. Even if it's technically legal to carry a small non-locking knife in luggage, personally I just wouldn't bother due to the possibility of hassle and having in confiscated.
I live in a rural location and sometimes might leave a UKPK or similar in my pocket if going into town for supplies - nobody notices anyway. Going to a city - I make sure I don't have one with me. Knife crime is getting a lot of publicity here at the moment and people are likely to be twitchy about it.

My buddy likes his new Urban, he got the AEB-L sprint. Already cut himself with it opening a package. Cut through the package and nicked his finger (only a flesh wound :D ).

Some UK establishments and events have a complete “no sharps” policy. I wouldn’t risk anything I value when visiting well known or official sites, museums etc in London, for sure.

He'll mostly be working on his trip. Lead Network Engineer. But I'll give him a heads up.
