Oh wow! Good news from Sal!

I have a cheap tape measure from a Christmas Cracker so inaccurate I reckon it would show a 3.5” CPK slippie as a UK legal 3” - I’d have to carry them together!

I would love to have a carbon fiber UKPK in any high end steel. Got into knives too late.

Bump for any news on a premium slip joint. ZT just came out with theirs and it gets me itching again! I need a premium Spyderco Slip Joint yesterday to relieve this itch!

Maybe even consider a collaboration Enrique Pena and do the Zulu with a Spydie Hole.

A Pena with a small hole instead of a nail nick would be awesome.

Traditional slip joints are characterized by being non-locking, clipless and two hand opening. Selection of blade and cover materials are open but those three other criteria define a traditional design. And I think the traditional designs are driving the new interest in slip joint knives. I have a number of Great Eastern Cutlery traditionals and no Spyderco slip joints.

We can discuss a higher end Slipit. Maybe something like Carbon fiber, Micarta or? Does the steel make a difference?

Hi Michael,

I'm not interested in making a nail nick model. We can discuss one hand open, like the UK, or two hand open, like the Double Dents?

A Spyderco traditional knife either wouldn’t be a traditional knife or wouldn’t be a Spyderco, and that’s okay. After all Spyderco did pioneer the features that brought us out of the “traditional” era. The Roadie does come close to a traditional though, you could even call it that. The “double dents” on there serve the same as a nail nick but I think are a much better solution. That Alistair Phillips knife looks great too.

Does that complexity decrease the simplicity? Not at all.

I just mentioned the Double Dents! I think if you were going for a “traditional” knife to compete with the BM and ZT and GEC etc, you’d need to use something like that rather than a one-hand opening hole. If carbon fiber were used it’d have to be solid carbon fiber or marbled carbon fiber, not G10 laminated carbon fiber. Micarta would be really nice too with bolsters, that’s a classic look.

Count me in. Cf Ukpk with any of the popular non stainless steels sounds perfect to me.

Sal, I love the double dents like in the Roadie, and if the knife was a bit bigger the dents could be a bit bigger as well maybe allowing one handed opening yet keeping the traditional slip joint look. I don’t want a nail nick model either or I would have bought another brand already. I think that having a model made with both CF and Micarta would satisfy everyone. I also think the steel does make a difference, S90V/M390 for the premium people or even Cruwear like the more traditional steels used in slip joints. How about a S90V/M390-CF version and a Cruwear-Micarta version?

That would be a good set to cover your bases! Though I'd personally rather see 20CV than M390 since they are almost identical but 20CV is an American steel. I think those would be good pairings though.

Double Dents please, with Micarta to start. As to steel nothing too exotic is needed for a slip joint, but I would not turn down Cruwear.

How could I forget bolsters!? Yes to bolsters for me as well, even if they are just another color or texture of Micarta.

My thoughts: Double dents, polished Micarta, full-exposed liners, steel isn't critical but must have good sharpening response. Cruwear, 52100...

Golden-built.

ETA: maybe a bolstered and a non-bolstered "value" model, otherwise same design.

Hole please! I can already see the baby horn modded into a slip joint - but would be up for something different

Does the double dent make it thicker?
