We're still waiting on proto so mid to late 2020 is more likely.

Thanks for the update, Sal!
I probably mixed up the possible release date with the one of another knife I am eagerly waiting for, the sun and moon Chap... :o

Re: Caly 3.5 Light Weight: Any News?
Well, by the sounds of it the Caly 3.5 lightweight is probably going to be an insta buy for me. Any possibility of a Caly 3 lightweight after? :D I love the size and looks of the 3 inch model

I really hope it is XHP. I love the XHP on my Chap, and the Caly lightweight would be the perfect companion to it!

+ 1...
Though I am a bit nervous when I think of my disposable income... so many great knives on the horizon that I really want to try (Caly 3.5 LW, Rock Jumper, Sun and moon Chap, Siren, K390 Endela/ Endura, ... ... :p )

Also looking forward to this eagerly. Just hoping this makes it into the K390 line but I'll be picking one up regardless of the flavor. =D

Re: Caly 3.5 Light Weight: Any News?
I hope this goes well. I'll think about it, but a 3" Caly LW would excite me more.

I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.
Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

So...no Caly 3.5 LW in Reveal 5. Still, any news on it?

That's a shame. I'd love to see a Caly 3.5 and a Caly 3 LW. The Caly is my favorite Spyderco body design but I really prefer FRN. That's why I always end up carrying my UKPK. Please please please let us see a Caly LW soon! Thanks Sal.

If you can do without a lock, the UKPK is basically just a slip joint Calypso.kennethsime wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 5:34 pmI hope this goes well. I'll think about it, but a 3" Caly LW would excite me more.
Chris
Haves: Lava, Delica 4 Sante Fe Stoneworks, Spy-DK x2,

Re: Caly 3.5 Light Weight: Any News?
Still really want to see a lightweight caly 3.5 in the future. I think it would be a perfect alternative to the people who want a "upgraded Endura" with a wire clip and finger choil and what not. Could be a really interesting model

Re: Caly 3.5 Light Weight: Any News?
First, let me start by saying that I have no knowledge of the internal workings of Spyderco. I don't have an MBA or a business degree; nor am I an entrepreneur. I write CS curriculum for a living, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see some highly anticipated (at least on the forum) models stuck in a holding pattern for the time being. There is a lot of uncertainty about the economy and its recovery. I think it is safe to assume that household discretionary spending will decrease (to what extent, I do not know). That has to affect Spyderco in some form or fashion.samdasnake wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 11:59 amPlease please please let us see a Caly LW soon! Thanks Sal.
I'd imagine that companies want to reduce risk during these uncertain times. Sprints and exclusives are probably seen as a good thing There seems to be a pent up demand for our favorite models in fancy steels. Outlets make a large-ish purchase, which means Spyderco doesn't have to keep inventory sitting around collecting dust. The riskiest decision is probably to introduce a brand new knife from a new designer/maker. The Caly LW doesn't fit into either category, but as I understand it, FRN moulds cost a fair amount of money upfront. But over the long-run, the LW models are worth it. If you are going to invest in a new FRN model, what would sell better, the Caly LW or the Para2 LW? I would bet that the fact that certain models won't hit the market in the short-term is not an indication that the model won't see the light of day. Rather, Spyderco is waiting for the right moment (not smart enough to determine when this is) to release it.

I have looked at those! It's on the list. Just picked up a Dragonfly, and the Chapparal and UKPK are next on my "little knife" list.StuntZombie wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 3:12 pmIf you can do without a lock, the UKPK is basically just a slip joint Calypso.kennethsime wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 5:34 pmI hope this goes well. Re: Caly 3.5 Light Weight: Any News?
IMO the UKPK gives you the very best value for money of any Spyderco knife. It's Golden made, great fit and finish, light as a feather, carries like a dream, thin blade stock, discreet wire clip, and very respectable blade steel (CTS BD1N) all for only $63. I loved mine as a lightweight EDC. Ended up giving it away to a friend who really liked it too. (Unfortunately, he lost it a few weeks afterward.)kennethsime wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 6:34 pmI have looked at those! It's on the list.
