Centofante update

#1

Post by crazywednesday »

Its been a while since the Centofante had an update. I had a dream that the Centofante 3 had a sprint in K390 ffg. As a side note, I wouldnt mind if they did the 4 also.

The Centofante 3 was the first Spyderco knife I purchased, in 2017. It's pretty beat up now. Would be nice to get an update.

I wouldn't mind an ffg Centofante, keeping the 2mm bladestock...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Either but I was thinking about having one custom done and since the 3 is still in production it would be cheaper and easier.

I could get behind this. How about a wire clip this time around?

Might as well skeletonize the liners if we are going with a wire clip.

Isn't there already only one liner on the Centofante?

As the Centofante 3 is one of my favorites, I might be a little biased, but I think an upgraded version would be great. Or an updated version of the 4 would also be good because everyone seems to love wharncliffes these days. I'd prefer that it be screwed together rather than pinned though. I'd even like an updated Vesuvius even though I'm not a huge fan of the compression lock. It's a great design and any of them would make for a classy upgraded or sprint model.

I'd take a sprint / upgrade of any of the Centofante designs with the exception of the compression lock Vesuvius. I may have mentioned a Centofante 3 in ZDP189 and British Racing Green before.

The C25 is probably my go-to zip tie and blister pack killer, the Memory one of my most carried Spydies (and in my pocket today because of this thread) and my Centofante 3 my barbecue knife when there is a good chance that someone is going to ask to use a knife and could quite possibly do something stupid with it.

After a jackass borrowed my knife to cut zip ties that turned out to be wire ties, I have become very comfortable saying “no” and letting them use scissors. It took a lot of elbow grease to sharpen out the damage to that 154cm blade.

I'm all in for a Centofante sprint or update, but not for a flat grind - the hollow grind is one of the Centofante's essential elements, imo.

As the one who actually proposed the flat grind, I still have to admit: You're right probably...

My wish came just from the fact, that the Centofante is the only 2mm stock Spydie I am aware of beside the Chaparral.
And since the 2mm ffg in the Chaparral works amazing and is still absolutely strong enough, I just wish for more and LONGER ffg blades in 2mm stock.

But instead of making a hollow grind 2mm stock knife ffg, it's a better idea to make a 3mm stock ffg knife 2mm... ;)
A 2mm Stretch for example would be the absolute king of slicing I am sure.

Thanks for the wake up.
I have a Centofante that I barely touched through the years.
It would make a good apple slicer, no?

I´d say: NO, not the best for that... that´s why I initially proposed a ffg Centofante: The hollow sabre grind makes it VERY good for cutting things with smaller diameter (thinner rope and so on), but not for stuff like apples imho. The sabre grind part acts more like a "wedge" than a slicer...

Keep the hollow grind please - maybe update the 90s scales? The hollow grind is scary amazing when you're not wedging things apart

The Centofante series is great. I was surprised at first at the blade stock being thinner than the standard Endura and Delica, but, it is very durable and a great folder. I would love to see Spyderco make an update of the Centofante Vesuvius with the combo part serrated edge.
