G10 Ink Stain Help

#1

Post by Capt'n Boatsalot »

So I accidentally got an ink stain on my REX 45 PM2.

Any ideas on getting rid of it? Magic Eraser? Rubbing alcohol? I tried what I had available - hand sanitizer - and it didn't have any effect.

Recommendations?

Haven't faced that before, but some ideas are magic eraser, 50/50 mix of rubbing alcohol and white vinegar, acetone, or ammonia. Good luck!

I'd try some acetone and a magic eraser. If that doesn't work you might want to try Rit color remover, if it can remove dye maybe it'll work on ink.

Thanks guys! I will try that. Unfortunately I am out of town until Sunday so it'll be a few days until I get to try.

Whatever you try I'd try it on the smallest spot first or you may just smear it around and make it worse.

Inexpensive cleaning product called "Awesome" found at many grocery stores will take ink and magic marker off of Formica counter tops. Plus, it's a lot less likely to strip the orange, than dye remover. Also if it doesn't work on the G10 can be used to clean around the house.

G10 looks way more porous than a counter top, so you may have to use the "stubborn stain method". Unscrew the spray nozzle, and pour a puddle completely over the ink stain. Let sit for a few minutes. Paper or cloth towel up what it removes, and repeat till it all dissolves.

Curious how well it'll work on G10, so plz post results with a pic.

Look at the rit dye thread closely before trying that remover. As Evil said, test first!

MagicEraser FTW!

I used only MagicEraser, cold water, and 5 min with light scrubbing. Pulled it right out. I am stunned how easy this was. Tells me both that G10 is quite impervious to stains / permanent discoloration, and that MagicEraser is, well, magic. :D

Below is a progression...

After maybe 90 seconds...

Almost gone...

All gone...

I did make sure I had lots of other potential cleaning agents, but I am very happy that I didn't need any of them...

I nearly cleaned up my Cruwear Military since the Ink cleanup was so effortless, but thought better of it. I like the slightly dirty color it has earned. It's comforting, I guess, to know that I could clean it up, if I wanted to. But I like it's earned handle "patina". ;)
