Hello all Spyderco afficionado's! I'm new to the Spyderco Forums and I just wanted to introduce myself.

First off, I want to say that I'm a relatively new knifeknut. I started collecting small, sharp, pointy things a couple of years ago. I started out with some Gil Hibben throwing knives (loved to toss the stickers from 15 ft back), eventually branching out to the folding knife arena.

My first folding knife was, of all things, a Spydercard (combo edge). That little, unusual, credit-card-sized knife was a interesting conversation topic. At first, people didn't know what to make of it. The 'sheeple' immediately disregarded it as some sort of viscious, concealable, edged weapon. The more understanding acquaintences of mine saw it as a very innovative and interesting knife. Well, the little guy turned out to be a real cutter, helping me slice through plastic wraps/straps and cardboard with ease. It went through a lot, requiring a couple of sharpening sessions on a Spyderco Sharpmaker (purchased after 3 months of buying the knife) and a total reprofiling of the first serration from a badly chipped 'tooth' (metal staples in plastic straps bad for SpyderEdges). The knife is still with me today and shows the most 'character' from being my first folding knife.

I now collect several other brands of knives, including Spyderco.

Out of the Spydie's I have, I have (in no necessary order):

2 Spydercards (plain&combo)

2 Delica's VG-10 (plain&combo)

1 Carbon Fiber Delica (plain)

1 Endura VG-10 (combo)

2 SS Crickets (plain&serrated)

1 Vesuvias (plain)

1 SpyderHawk (wicked serrations)

1 Native in CPMSV30 (plain)

1 Native III (plain)

1 Kiwi with bone handles

1 SS Kiwi

1 SS Police (combo)

My EDC's rotate between several brands, but out of my Spydies, the workhorses are the Endura (combo) & Spydercard (combo). The Endura has been getting more 'pocket-time' since IMHO, is more ruggedly built than the Spydercard. The VG-10 steel is just awesome and it just slices through most materials I wouldn't ever consider putting the AUS-6 blade of my Spydercard against.

I hope that I can make some new friends here and share some discussion and ideas with them. -Best Wishes,

-Silver Dragon

Name (alias will do): SilverDragon (Born on Year of the Dragon, likes Silver)
Loc (yah it's under your name, but put it here): Bay Area, California (great, crazy place, some good knife laws, but I wish I could get balisongs out here)
Size (we might have to restrain you from grabbing all those nice new s and need to know how many ppl to call): 6ft, 220lbs. medium build.

other carried brands:
other purchase brands(ie collectors): Benchmade, Camillus, CRKT, Kershaw, SOG.

prefered blade shape(if any): I like pointy (but whatever works)
prefered blade size(fixed and folders): I like 'em long as possible...erm wait...that didn't come out right.....
Prefered edge type(this would be on the prefered blade type): Plain, usually. If the knife is to be a workhorse, I get combo if available.
prefered room size(we only have so many to put addicts in): padded and airconditioned will do nicely
sedative(we all know about Java's thing): Techno-trance music

SASE, pickup, or UPS: whatever works best to get a good deal on a knife

Psychological Survey Section
I classify myself:
[x]A knife user
[x]A knife admmirer
[]A knife abuser
[x]Some combination, please explain.
I love a good knife. I will use them and admirer some for how great they look/work/etc. I will not use a knife for what it is not intended for (pry bar, screwdriver, etc.)

What is your wife/girlfriend/SO most likely to say if you buy another knife:
[]Goodbye.
[]You're crazy!
[x]Cool!
[]Here, I'll pay for half.
Now if I could prevent her from stealing them...
Would you rather be:
[x]Without knives, but rich
[]Poor, but with knives
Then I could start sword-collecting
My main use for this pile of quality knives I now own will be(check all that apply):
[x] EDC
[] Food Prep
[] Field use
[] Automotive
[] House Repair
[] LEO
[] Mall Ninja
It's so handy to have a nice sharp blade to do so many daily cutting chores.

I hope that helps. Thanks for having me!

SD,
Welcome aboard. I see your paperwork is done <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I have a question and you might be able to tell me. How's the blade between the S30V Native and III compare. I have a III and the blade is wider and a larger swedge than by 440V native. I haven't been convinced of the III's handle, but I do like the blade.
TIA
Chris

Howdy SD! Welcome to <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>Land! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I see your Spyderco Addicts Treatment Center paperwork is already filled out, we can start you on a course of treatment right away. Coffee? Doughnuts? <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

We are based on the classic AA treatment regimen, using each other for support in coping with the infamous <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>Addiction. Myself and Drs. Sven, Java, and the aforementioned VampyreWolf will be in charge of your treatment.

By the time you read this, you'll have already read it.

Thanks for all your warm welcomes.

boxer93: Funny that you should ask about the Native SV30 and the Native III <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Since I have both knives on me right now as I'm typing. Both knives are really nice and more or less 'virgin' out of the box. I've only cut a couple of things with them (letters from the mail) and both do it well. You're right about the Native III's swedge, it is larger than the older Native. I think the SV30 blade is a tad bit sharper as it just scares off what little arm hair I have (I am American Born Asian BTW, I don't have much body hair in the 1st place). I think the VG10 still is a bit 'prettier' though, it seems to have a nice luster to it. I the natural grip-feel I get from both knives. I guess I'll have to put the two boys through more paces to see their strengths/weaknesses.

Sword & Shield and vampryewolf: Donut of choice is Krispy Kremes (mmmm...got one 5 minutes away from my house). As for creams and sugar, 3 of each please.

I suppose we can give you something other than tim hortons and starbucks...

Timmy's Walnut Crunch... Starbucks triple capp 2 cream 4 sugar(I've been to our one here enough already that they get the usual)... heaven... Or I can walk to the coffee shop about 4 blocks away and get it for 1/2 the price with as much caffine as I can get.

Coffee shop close here caters to the requests on the university kids... which means packing each cup with as much caffine as is humanly possible to contain. double capp here is equal to a triple starbucks capp... now think about the triple here...

They'll fill a travel mug with capp for $5 during finals.

Thank you all for the warm greetings.

CKE: Thanks! Glad to meet'cha

dialex: your website shows some creative ideas! I hope Spyderco would seriously consider some of your designs for future Spyderco status!

Choice of coffees: Mmmm...caffiene good. Decaf...bad... I prefer my cup of joe as caffienated as possible. Though, I like to take that bitter bite out of black coffee so I'll do all sorts of things to it, given what ingredients I have on hand. Nutmeg & Cinnamon with some raw cane sugar? Sure! I'm also all about helping out some of the local mom & pop shops from going under from the flood of StarBucks that seems be washing away the competition.

If you want to take the bitterness out of your coffee, try a light sprinkle of salt in it.

Thanks Alan2112!

It's great to meet so many other kind people with similar interests.

wdl: Salt in coffee? Ummm...I don't know if that would work really good for me. I'm more of a sugar and caffiene fiend. If I can't get coffee, I'll go for an energy drink (Red Bull, Bawls, Whoop-***, etc.) If I can't get an energy drink, I'll go for sodas (Mountain Dew, Jolt, etc.) Sugar=yes...Salt=no

ah, welcome to the forum and it's good that you've been admitted to the SATC.... yes, the spydie virus does seem to be incurable.... but, we'll help you find ways of coping with that <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> as far as coffee is concerned, i'm swedish(that should say it all right there) so needless to say i like coffee. i usually make my own stuff @ home. i'm not too keen on spending 4-5 bucks on a cup of coffee. i bought a gallon of gatorade the other day for 4 bucks thuogh.... great stuff especially when it's 100+outside(wretch) take care and enjoy the forum!!!
