Would a Chaparral LW Slip joint be a good idea?
The Chaparral is a superior knife design and that thin blade slices like nobody's business. That got me to thinking that a slip joint version of the LW would be a real interesting pocket knife.

Oooh...I think this would be a great idea. I love slipjoints, and the Chap LW would be great as one.

I'll admit: My first impulse was to vote "no", cause beside the amazing thin blade that perfect Chap backlock is one of its defining features for me.
But, thinking about it a little longer: YES. Just so that more people (UK...!) could enjoy this amazing design.
Plus: The Chap will be held with one finger in the choil most times anyway, which makes a lock less necessary.

Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I prefer the Chap handle to the Urban, and a thin slicey blade of that size makes more sense, so yes!!

It won't be as smooth as it allready is, so ... no

I also voted no. Spyderco has always stated that the Chaparral series is for featuring different handle materials. I like the consistency that comes with that.

I’d say yes. The UKPK is a very, very good knife and a good value but the Chaparral is in another class with its sturdy but lightweight liners and XHP steel. I’d buy one in a heartbeat.
Re: Would a Chaparral LW Slip joint be a good idea?
This knife is not my thing, but obviously it would be an excellent model for edc. More of a gentleman's carry while being a solid performer.
Re: Would a Chaparral LW Slip joint be a good idea?
No, only because I don't really like slip joints other than my SAK classic that stays in my jean coin pocket.
I think the number one priority for Spyderco right now is to produce more Chaparral FRN to keep up with the demand.

I voted no (apologies to folks in restrictive jurisdictions) as I tried a UKPK and decided I need for lock for my uses. I love the Chap LW and I would rather see them focus on getting the standard version restocked and then focus on developing a FFG PE LC200N Salt version of the Chap LW.

Maybe not a Chap necessarily, but a slip joint that thin and with that design language would be excellent IMO
Re: Would a Chaparral LW Slip joint be a good idea?
No, the backlock is perfect on this knife. Without it, this knife wouldn't be a Chaparral.

Re: Would a Chaparral LW Slip joint be a good idea?
Although I have no restrictions in my state, I voted yes because I really like carrying and using the urbans.
I don't have a chap yet and would probably buy a slip version over the backlock.

Would it be a good idea for what?

Voted YES, and I might buy one...

That thin slicey blade would be very good in a slip joint. Plus, the overall knife is very trim so it already makes a fantastic gentleman's/gentlewoman's folder. I think the slip joint would make it viable to many more people. The overall design makes the Chaparral one of the most aesthetically pleasing knives extant.

Re: Would a Chaparral LW Slip joint be a good idea?
Am sure there would be those who would love it. On the other hand, I doubt it would be significantly less expensive to make than the FRN midlock version which has a MSRP almost 1.5 times that of the FRN UKPK, I'm not sure sales would justify the investment in new molds.

Re: Would a Chaparral LW Slip joint be a good idea?
That is likely true about the cost of the molds, however, Spyderco has been willing to do such things in the past. It would depend on demand. Certainly, the quality of such a folder would be superb.

Yes but I believe Sal and Co will not allow anything but backlock. Would have to retool and so on
