Smallest spiderco knife

#1

Post by OHGrizzly »

Digging into knife/steel i am just learning not all knifes are created equal. I have a eese izula and a cold steel trail master san mai 3. I have a very small plastic case knife that i have carried for a long time. Its so small i never know its there. Id love to have a quality of the same size to carry around now.

What is the smallest spderco knife? Something that can take abuse. Might be cutting up a peach, tomato, fishing line , small metal wire, opening a can, cutting a rope, etc.

Something super light and under 3 inchs closed.

The smallest current production is the Bug. With a blade length under an inch, good luck cutting up a peach with it. You'd be better served by a Roadie or a Grasshopper.

Welcome to the forum OHGrizzly! Nice to have you here. :)

The Lil' Native might be worth looking into. I don't own one but they are small, super tough little knives. You can get them in a couple different lock styles.

The Bug is a tough little knife. I'm afraid of losing it from pocket carry, but makes a great necklace knife.

I would look at a Dragonfly. If you want more apparent strength, it comes in linered G10. It is a small, but capable knife. The Cat is another good choice for a small practical knife that is not expensive.

Dragonfly. Maybe look at the Chaparral FRN and see if that fits your size requirements.

Dragonfly, manbug or ladybug are worth checking out.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Dragonfly, Lil native compression lock, or a manbug. the manbug is the only one smaller than 3.4 at 2.5

My summertime shorts knife is the urban. With the frn it’s very light but enough to get most jobs done. A dragonfly would be the other good choice.

There are tons of small Spyderco knives. Some probably smaller than anyone really needs them to be. If you don’t need a truly short knife the Chaparral is unbeatable.

The smallest ones I have are the Copilot and Cricket. I prefer the Copilot over the more common Dragonfly.

Something that can take abuse. Might be cutting up a peach, tomato, fishing line , small metal wire, opening a can, cutting a rope, etc.

Sounds like a small multi-tool would be best.

I would imagine a Manbug might be worth looking into. Although, I wouldn't recommend using a Spyderco folder for opening cans. For a small, lightweight tool for that, I would recommend also carrying a Victorinox Alox Cadet, which is super-thin and light, and has a proper can opener on it, which will open a can more cleanly, easier, quicker, and much more safely than a knife blade.

I'm carrying a Dragonfly at the moment and don't even realize it's there.

So topic related question.

Looking for some small tip down carry Spydercos?

Any ideas on the smallest ones that you could carry tip down and have a lanyard hole?
On my radar: 110V Military, Police 4 and some sweet Rex 45 Military action.

Newest Spydies: S90v Ti Military, Pacific Salt and a special Kiwi.

That might be the Spin (smaller) or Cricket (a little bigger). The Spin is discontinued but seems still available in some places.

The (also discontinued) Balance or Equilibrium might also be of interest.
