Waiting until the last minute to 'Reveal' an expensive consumer product is a poor marketing strategy. Let's face it, none of us on this forum actually NEED another pocket knife. But most of us do need to save up our discretionary money in order to purchase another one.

I think Spyderco should change to a 90 day policy on release notifications. That sounds like a fair compromise. It is better than the old process that drove millenials crazy when it took over a year (or more) to see a model after it appeared in the catalog. And 90 days should be plenty of time to allow for consumer marketing and also give a person enough time to save up enough $$$ for that next Millie! :)
Agreed.

The way they are doing business reminds me of a story of taking bad advice from an expert. The story goes like this.

Years ago there was a man who sold Hot Dogs with a cart in the city of New York. Every day he loaded his cart full of Hot Dogs knowing if he does not have them he can not sell them.

He chose good quality though they cost a little more he offered the basic condiments and kept the menus simple to make a buying choice easy.

He raised a family and sent his son to a business college. The son upon graduation came home and corrected dear old uneducated dad to the ways of business telling him not to stock so many hot dogs on his cart each day leave them in a warehouse and only order them when needed based on spreadsheet calculations of sales.

But a lesser quality hot dog and use a cheaper bun statistics show no one notices the differences anyhow.

The father followed his wise advice because his educated son must know better.

Within the year he had to close his cart. When asked why he said sales just aren’t what they used to be.

I'd love to see a k390 military. Not as sure about Maxamet, but I'd probably buy that one just to check it out.

I think the military would be cool in a really tough steel, like 3v, Sleipner, or 52100. I'm still hoping that the Italians convince Sal to sprint something in Sleipner. ;)

I agree on Sleipner! I'm thinking that since M390 and K390 are now in Seki, maybe there is a chance we could see a Sleipner Police LW, Endura, or Delica since they are all Bohler steels. I'd be for any of those!

And obviously I REALLY want a 3V Military as well. That would be an amazing knife!

Judging from Shawn's videos with REX 45, that particular Military should be no slouch in the toughness department.
(Though I happen to like 3V and 52100 just fine as well. No experience with Sleipner but by reputation.)

I’m hoping knifeworks eventually does the gray/black with 52100 Military, like their manix.
OMG yes!

Wake me when there are SE H1 and PE FFG LC200N Military Salts with neon semi-translucent yellow day-glow G10 scales and DLC coated blades, liners, hardware, etc. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

I would like to see one in old school D2 and some earth tone scales. The D2 could help keep the production cost down and you will have a hard use folder.

Especially a DLC D2 with Foliage Green G10. This would be a good and popular base model production steel if there is ever a Military LW as well. D2 is very popular on user folders.

Agreed on the D2, I saw one of the old Sprints on ebay not long ago, and it was pricey lol. But it really does make sense on a folder like the Millie, that can withstand a bit of hard use. I'm a weirdo, so wear and corrosion resistance are not high priorities for me, whereas a blade that resists chipping and isn't a bear to sharpen ticks my boxes :) And a DLC/foliage green Military might be the first DLC piece I would own lol

I'm a big fan of D2 and have many knives (custom and production) with it. But I don't see any advantage over, say, Cru-Wear.
(I don't know what the difference in cost to produce and market would be, but I doubt the difference in price to the end user would be significantly different.)

I lucked out and purchased a good as new cruwear milli that hadn't been used or barely for less then a new plain military. Not a scratch on it.
I feel like with this I already got all I want from a milli sized folder. Whenever I think about buying a new one I carry this for a few days and without exception I decide to better not as I already have it in my favorite steel, love the color scheme and makes my Grey cruwear set complete. I still have red sharpie on the edge when I decided to take the edge up a few grit levels but decided against it and touched it up on the sharpmaker instead and it's good to go for a good good while.
That being said, I like it so much. If I ended up buying a new s30v one instead I would surely be scouring the internet now for news of an interesting sprint so I can understand the demand.

The Military (especially sprints/exclusives) seems to satisfy people so much lol, I think there should be more variants made. And from the demand it looks like a new CruWear should be first!

Couldn't agreed more! I'd love a DLC Cruwear Military paired with Foliage Green or some other earth tone.

It caught me off guard as things along the line of the length of a pm2 has been my go to knife for all occasions, hence my investing in 5 sprint variants of which 2 are cruwear, Rex 45, m390 and recently 20cv but cruwear still stand out as my favorite steel to work with, sharpen and while I can get hairpopping edges on most steels if I bother to do so - cruwear seems to get there so easily and once you have sharpening down to a certain level the steel sort of tells you what it wants. Never have I found it to be more true than with cruwear. Crazy stuff.

So obviously I wasn't gonna let a milli that has been praised to no end here in bloody cruwear pass me by. Gotta see what the hype is about and no better opportunity then this I reckoned. Surprisingly it doesn't even feel large in hand (yeah I'm probably preaching to the choir here but forgive me for it), it actually feels great and the extra bit of cutting edge, the increased size of the handle, all of it just makes sense when holding it. If that makes any sense Haha! To the point where going back to a pm2 feels like going back to a 'small' folder.

When I picked it up I even gave the man 10 euros on top of the 150 he was selling it for, it was by far the 'best' knife in his collection of budget to mid level knives. Truthfully the only item worth selling really to be a bit blunt about it. But he needed the money and I found A grail among.. Not so much grail material. I almost felt bad about it otherwise, it was clear he was as passionate about knives and in the know about what exactly he was letting go and some reluctance hung in the air. I suspect this wasn't the first of his collection he had to let go. Didn't feel right otherwise, so I can only say thanks and assure him it got the best possible new owner and I love it each more every time I carry it.
Still get into contact with him now and again as knife aficionados are hard to find in the wild and its fun talking to fellow addicts :)

I'll definitely end up with another milli one day but this specimen will be hard to replace as it already has a back story, good things came out of it and I'll be sure to add a few good years to that story.

I've been missing out, clearly.
I clearly do enjoy writing the occasional wall of text about something I'm passionate about, so I can't blame those that fell off halfway through and thanks to those taking the time to read all of this!

Oh hah, no worries I enjoyed the story. If you like CruWear and feel like you've been born again with the Millie, then you should really check out 52100, of which a Millie Sprint was made. I'll shut up about it now because I'm a pest about that steel

Let's hope that 2020 bring us some Millie sprint run.
What was the last time that we have a sprint run? Was is Rex 45 in 2018?
