Matriarch 2 utility knife?

#1

Post by kirill.sergueev »

Dear All,
I just got myself Matriarch-2 and looking through the old video I ran into BaldeHQ YouTube from 2012 https://youtu.be/eemcCw5pZG8 where they shown Matriarch 2 with the tag like Civilian has where it said "No designed to be used as a utility knife". Did Spyderco changed its position and now it can be used as a utility knife?

I've actually used my original VG-10 Matriach ( 2005 vintage) for utility purposes before and It wasn't bad. Actually I would love to see a Matriarch model with a thicker blade in full SE for utility uses. Yeah I would love one.

Well I should rephrase - obviously Matriarch 2 can be used whatever, rather had Spyderco relabeled it and it is not "self defense only" or the warranty is void?

No I really do believe if they use a thicker blade on those Reverse S blades I truly believe they would be a great utility knife and would still be good for Self Defense purposes as well. As good as many of these newer steels are I think that is all you would have to do to make the tip part more sturdy and have confidence that your knife would hold up. And not be worried about the tip being vulnerable.

Although when they started making the Matriarch in VG-10 blade steel I heard fewer reports about the tips getting snapped off. But I still think that a thicker blade with possibly more pronounce hollow grind or a full flat grind would do the trick.

If your knife came in the box with papers, it should say there. Otherwise, you might want to call Spyderco to get that verified.

it should be a salt model with h1. the tip would be more durable and you’d never have to worry about rust.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Papers say "self defense" but no tag is included. One Civilian has that states that warranty is void if used as EDC. I am quite positive that the knife is original.
