I don't have any experience with Spyderco's m390 heat treat, but I CAN tell you that the difference between M390 at 57 - 58 hrc compared to M390 at 60 - 61 hrc is night and day. If I was going to go with a lower hardness for toughness... I'd go with a different, more suitable steel personally.steelcity16 wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2019 2:00 pmAnyone plan on HRC testing theirs? Any guesses??
Over on BF some members were speculating that this is going to be "too low" on the HT because M390 has to be 60+ to make any sense. I have no idea how accurate that is, but it has me intrigued. First M390 knife out of Seki, so curious as to where this lands??![]()
I'd be interested to see it but I'm not at all worried about it.steelcity16 wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2019 2:00 pmAnyone plan on HRC testing theirs? Any guesses??

I don't think anyone needs to worry about the heat treat on Spyderco's M390.Sal Glesser, post: 11587553, member: 105187 wrote:Hi Luis,
We make the M390 and 204P as hard as we can make it.

I liked the Kahr colors but not the shorter (legal to most) blade length so never ended up with one. Glad to see this dark blue color. Would have bought it if it was VG-10; that it is M390 makes it much more interesting. Ordered two. Only other Spyderco I've owned in multiple quantity is the delica 4 black frn vg10 ffg. It is the one I use the most.StuntZombie wrote: I think the dark blue is what might get it into my pocket. I missed out on the Kahr Delica in that color, and I didn't really want to have to buy BBS' Lil Matriarch and do a blade swap. Plus, it sounds like M390 is pretty easy to deal with. That checks a bunch of boxes for me.
+1 (ditto)The Meat man wrote: Looks like a very nice knife. I don't know about anyone else but to me, getting a premium steel like M390 warrants a bit of cost increase over the VG-10 model. Especially when you consider the past difficulties in getting the Japanese factories to work with foreign steels.
I like the dark blue; I much prefer it over the bright blue of their G-10 exclusives.
This. 100% true (regarding steels in Japan). The Meat man wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2019 8:07 pmLooks like a very nice knife. Like an episode of Dirty Jobs?cycleguy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2019 8:15 amYes. Think this would be an interesting documentary. Getting to hear the conversations and getting to see the on-goings between Spyderco, dealers, material suppliers and off shore manufacturers; and tracking a project from conception thru public delivery & acceptance...
