The Smock...

... may be the best Spydie i owned yet. So many aspects are pretty much perfect. I'm in love. :) So smooth, so grippy and handsome, such an ingenious unlocking mechanism. Not the biggest fan of wharnie blades, but the thick blade stock - yumm!! :D

Give it a deep carry :spyder: pocket clip, and a steel upgrade (nothing wrong with S30V, it's just no thriller), and you have a perfect pocket knife. Even without any titanium.

Well done Spyderco. Thank You!

One of those knives I'm surprised a lot people don't seem to be very fond of. Mainly the handle...which I guess for MY hand, and I'm assuming yours...fingers just tend to fall in the right place. Glad to hear it sounds like it was worth it for you to break your rule!

I hate to say it, Michael, but I told you so :)

Love the knife, too. And even if you forget about the button, the 2nd detent makes this the first Spyderco compression lock that I really enjoy: closing the blade is super smooth, and it doesn't ever bounce.

I see the Wharncliffe as a feature: it's about the best blade shape you can EDC if you ever need a knife in an emergency. Not just talking about SD, but think about having to cut a seat belt or similar .... use it for opening/cutting boxes, and you'll see. Plus, I have plenty of other blade shapes, so cool that this one is different.

My only feedback to Spyderco is: make another one but larger ! 4" blade and in M4 or CW, how about that ? :)

Roland.

True, it could be a tad bigger - but that's no fault of the Smock as it is now. The wharnie blade... you're probably right. It's a practical shape for a multitude of purposes. Just that aesthetically I prefer other shapes. But: as it is now, the whole knife is pretty slim/compact, not eating up much space in your pocket. Another advantage!

The clip position has a good chunk of the knife sticking out your pocket. I'll see that I find a deep carry alternative. No biggie.

The steel.... Well... *sighing* :o

Love my Smock! I’ve said before it’s perfect for my hand and uses. The only thing that could make it better is Cruwear sprint run! Nothing against s30v but Cruwear! The amount sticking out of pocket doesn’t concern me, I’ve compared to other knives and noticed just as much sticks out yet they don’t get the same complaint, Yo2, Delica, PM2 the list goes on. At the end of the day, comfort in use is far more important to me than a bit sticking out of my pocket and the clip is in just the right spot for use. Some folks don’t like the choil but again the way I use it, it’s just fine.
This is “THE” knife for me! I’ll eventually grab a spare but didn’t want to get two at once and stop someone else from getting their hands on one.

Played with my Smockster again. :D Have I mentioned how amazingly smooth it is? Even better than my PM2! Alot! It's such a great knife. If you find one and don't own one already, grab it!

I own two more :spyder: flippers, the Southard and the Advocate. The Southard is more aggressive, while the Advocate is really really classy/precious. All three are outstanding. But the Smock is my favorite. A winner, through and through. :)

I decided to give the Smock a few days with the deep carry I picked up for my PM2. (For my hand the deep carry on the PM2 is more comfortable). Now it definitely isn’t as comfortable on the Smock, but it’s not terrible so I left it on and got another for my PM2. I might eventually swap back to the factory clip but for now it’s the deep carry as it does ride better in pocket. Now the thing is, if I still worked a job that required a knife, the factory clip would wins hands down due to comfort in use. However these days I work a job that I can’t carry a knife at all and my edc tasks outside of work don’t require griping a knife for extended periods.

Knifeworks has some in stock. This is one of my favorite spydies. Just love it! My fingers and toes are crossed for sprints.

Also River's Edge and New Graham have them in stock.

Got a deep carry clip about two months or so ago. Makes the package even better. I'll never let this one go. :)
