Best way of restoring dyed FRCP scales

Hello guys, I just recently won an unused albeit 'personalized' native5-salt from a raffle. I have no issues so far about it except I wanted the stock hi-viz yellow scales back instead of the indigo coating. Is there a safe way of removing this dye/paint? tia

If it's dyed with RIT dye, they make a "color remover" that might work. If it's paint, brake fluid might work, or you might have to sandblast it off.

Apparently the dye remover is pretty effective, there was just a post here a while ago showing pics. This is one reason I haven't dyed my Caribbean, but if you go with black at least you can dye it back to black again and not worry about changing the shade.

Does it mean if I strip it off using the dye remover from RIT will it restore it to the original scale color?
What if I dye it again to yellow without removing the existing coat?

Try the dye remover, should take off the rit dye and not the stock color. At worst it may lighten the stock yellow it a bit. I've used the color remover before and it works fantastic, but make sure u have some very good ventilation because it stinks to high ****.

Going from purple to yellow probably won’t work. Try the rot remover. You do it the same way you would for dying a knife. Just soak it until it goes back to yellow.

From what I've seen it should get very close, maybe not quite as vibrant as it is when new but mostly. I'd like to see when you're done actually.

Forum member attila posted his process not too long ago. He started with acetone, and that got most of it. Then moved on to the dye remover. I think it turned out very, very nice.

Thank you for pointing me out to attila's thread. Btw, does it mean I have to disassemble my knife just to dye the scales? What if I just dye without disassembling?

Since yours is a Salt, no need to disassemble.
