My Native 5 Maxamet
My Native 5 Maxamet
Got this beauty Thursday and it didn't take long to love it. Right away, the light weight, substantial handle, and the super good looking blade with it's stonewashed finish(love stone washed), sold me. Should have gotten a LW Native long ago.
This Maxamet blade is something I've never experienced before, it's a hungry cutter :) , even with tiny "teeth" in the edge, it still cuts paper and shaves hair. I will hit it on the Sharpmaker soon.
I guess Maxamet likes a "toothy" edge?
Don't like the clip, too long, hurts my palm. Made one in .032" titanium. Sort of matches the gray.

Nice job on the clip. The stock one hits too far forward and the edge of the logo tends to drag on your pocket.
Re: My Native 5 Maxamet
Have one too. It is a really nice knife indeed. That clip looks really nice. Could you tell us how you made it?

Re: My Native 5 Maxamet
Making a clip is a little involved, but anyone with minimal skills and tools can do it.
.032" thick titanium
#44 drill bit
Drill press
belt grinder
vice and aluminum jugs for bending(I made these)
blaster for the gray finish

Native 5 Maxamet is my EDC. Some don't like back locks. I like them fine. It's light, has a great blade shape and length, sturdy, practical, reasonably priced, and the steel is the best (for my purposes in an EDC) I've seen. Most modern steels will work OK day in and day out. But they don't bring a smile to my face the way Maxamet does.
Re: My Native 5 Maxamet
It does well with any edge I've put on it.
Give it a polished edge, 1 micron diamond or less, and be amazed at how long it holds.
There's only 1 rule I recommend for maxamet, forget all abrasives except diamond on the finishing stages, or you'll be leaving a good bit of performance on the table.
This means to me, diamond for the last 2 stones, and diamond only for any stropping.
Enjoy.

double post
Re: My Native 5 Maxamet
If recommend finishing on diamond (or CBN) anywhere from 600-2000 grit and some brief stropping. A highly polished edge is fine for pushcutting, but it will take a while to obtain and isn't ideal for all edc tasks. Ending on 1000-2000 grit and some stropping will pushcut just fine and slice a lot better and longer.
Re: My Native 5 Maxamet
Maxamet continues to amaze, I used the diamonds as you said finishing with 1500 grit. I thought the knife was sharp from the factory but now WOW.
I'll be testing it now.

Great knife. Maxamet polishes up very nicely if you want to go that route. You may lose a little performance, but it should still outcut everything else.
