Can anyone tell me what the micron equivalent is for the triangular rods i.e., CBN, Medium, Fine, Ultra Fine.

Hi FLHTK,

Welcome to our forum

Your request is a bit more complicated than it might seem. The Alumina particles, as I understand, used on the rods are generally 15 -20 microns. The different grits for fine and medium are attained by firing processes, not micron size. The CBN and diamonds used are 400 mesh. The ultra fines are made by tumbling the fine grits.

Hi.

You can use these as a rough reference.
There are also many other threads about that topic. (Search for Micron)

diamond= 68 micron, 400 grit, sandpaper 220

medium = 20 micron, 600 grit, sandpaper 800

fine= 6micron ,1200 grit,sandpaper 2000

ultrafine: 3 micron

Check out the "Grand Unified Grit Chart" over at blade forums. The supporting thread had a pretty in-depth discussion about where to place the ceramics, based on scratch-pattern comparisons.
