This is IMO one of the better ways for a couple reasons: once skilled enough at this, deployment and closure becomes lightning fast, faster than any automatic opening mechanism and probably the fastest way to deploy a folder period. It also puts less wear on the contact points of your compression lock as well as the detent, so for fidgeters, it might be a good habit to be using this method of opening. Lastly, when drawing from a pocket, it requires the least precise positioning of your hands and fingers in order to have a reliable and consistent deployment. All you have to do is be sure to fully disengage the lock enough for a split second while providing enough force so that the blade swings out. Not to mention, the method itself is more consistent, at least for myself, than using finger flicks, I always will occasionally botch an attempt at a finger flick but nearly never with a lock disengagement deploy.
