The Walker 2.0

#1

Post by rabbitanarchy14 »

I was looking at old spydercos and came across the michael walker. i liked it. the thumb ramp is an actual ramp instead of a a huge loop. what i didnt like is the molded frn handle and the clip. i was wondering if anyone has one, how do yo ulike it and if sal would chime in and say why they dropped it and there isnt a walker 2 like the kept the delica and dragonfly going.
i would be interested in buying a new version with g10 handles, open construction, s30v blade, and a wire clip. anyone else

If you saw an FRN Walker then, technically, you saw a Walker 2. First Walker is pictured below. It was made in Switzerland, had scales made of CF from a race car, was very well made, but very expensive. Second version was the FRN one, made in Japan, and developed a reputation for having a less than great liner lock. There have also been two aluminum versions and there was a CF Sprint a few years ago. As for why the Delica and D'fly are still in production and the Walker is not, sales is the obvious answer. You'd have to ask the general knife buying public why they prefer those two over any of the models that have come and gone during their production lives.

That first one looks awesome thank you. It looks like an old school front flipper. Really wish they made a newer version.

We are hoping for a new sprint run of the C22 sooner rather than later. It's a fantastic design and one that got me hooked on "little big knives."

I would love to see some of the old Walker, Wegner (Ocelot!), and Terzuola (Starmate!) designs brought back, made in Golden, and updated with steels like Cruwear and 4V. I'd prefer G10 or FRN models. I love these designs, the liner locks, the blade shapes, the grinds, the swedges, etc! I can't help but think that a lot of these models would have done better or perhaps even still be around had then been done Made in Golden with the more affordable G10 and the use of a steel like Cruwear.

Of the ones above, I like the FRN one the best. It could be updated with the new FRN molds and texturing, screw construction, some thump ramp jimping, and a wire clip. Same blade shape, but plain edge with Cruwear. Count me in!

If it has to be an already Spyderco produced Japanese steel, I hope it's hap40.

Gave an Army buddy one of the FRN versions as a gift. It eventually came apart on him during use.
