What is the best retailer to pre-order from?

#1

Post by Doeswhateveraspidercan »

There are several new and exciting Spyderco knives coming out and I am wondering which company people here have had the best luck pre-ordering from.

Blade H.Q. ?

Knifeworks ?

Any others and your experiences?

Thanks.

I have not had any luck preordering from any retailer. Ive tried to pre order only to to be looked over when the knife was dropped and came into inventory. Take your chances but cross your fingers.

Without mentioning any particular seller, I'll just say that I have decided "NEVER AGAIN" as far as pre-orders. It is no guarantee that the seller will be able to fill your order (all depending on their policy and where your name is on the list), so you may find yourself looking at knives for sale and wondering if your preorder is going to come through. In the case in question, I ended up cancelling the preorder after waiting and biting my nails and ordering from another seller who indicated having the knife in stock. I don't particularly blame the seller, that is just the nature of the preorder game.

I don't play the pre-order games, just stalk the forum and you will never miss out on a drop. Has worked for me.

I have only had issues with knifecenter, who seem to allow an unlimited number of preorders even though they know they won't be able to fulfill them all. No issues with others, although I haven't done many. In general I've had great experiences with Knife Works, so I'd trust them to do a preorder for sure.

NEVER PREORDER REGULAR PRODUCTION KNIVES! They'll eventually be in stock and plentiful, and you'll almost always overpay by doing a preorder. This may go without saying, but I did it a long time ago and always mention it when preorders come up.

Thank you, I wonder if the Ikuchi and the Parata are production or limited runs? Love Paul Alexander’s designs and these two are on my radar.

These two are regular production, and my bet is that the Ikuchi will sell out quickly and be hard to find for a little while but eventually stock will catch up to demand. The Parata on the other hand I think is "weird" enough that it should be easier to come by when first release. Of course I could be 100% wrong on all of this...
