Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report

#1

Post by Mr Blonde »

I loved seeing my fellow knifeknuts and the Spydercrew again at this 15th Spyderco Amsterdam Meet. It’s nice to see that many of my ‘own kind’ in one place. And, oh right, there were also a ‘few’ of Spyderco prototypes….;-). We needed a bit more time than last year, to determine what knives could be photographed and shown publicly, I appreciate your patience and understanding. There are 10 new designs I could shoot and share with you. I will continue processing the images in the next few days and share them all with you as I finish them.

Eric, Lisa, Jur, Ted and Martien did great job, putting together an amazing 15th Spyderco Amsterdam Meet, thank you !

Eric’s table was filled with about a 100 prototypes total. The 10 pieces I can share online, will likely all end up in the next Reveal catalog. This indicates these knives are planned to be released between May & August. I have no information on pricing or specific release dates.

I’m far from a professional photographer, but I hope to still give you a decent impression of these cool new knives in my upcoming posts. Any possible errors in the images or information about these production samples, are all mine. Probably due to experiencing a hefty dose of ‘new knife high’.

Spyderco 2019 Production Sample – Police 4 Lightweight

#3

Post by Mr Blonde »

I certainly didn’t see this design coming, the Police 4 with a lightweight FRN handle. This knife is all sorts of long, slender and light weight. I can imagine you’d forget you’d carry this knife, it’s that light for its size. If I recall correctly, the bladesteel on the lightweight will (also) be K390. Fit and finish were spot on. I hope they’ll make a serrated one, so I can retire my G10 Police 4 as a travel folding bread knife.

Always one of my favorite threads of the year! Thanks so much for doing this! :spyder:

The Lightweight Police looks exactly like what I expected from the rumors. Which were something along the lines of "Bi-directional FRN like the Endura series". To me, it looks like a seamless addition to the series!

Spyderco 2019 Production Sample – Endela

#6

Post by Mr Blonde »

As the name implies, the Endela is the size in between the Delica and Endura. I guess the SKU number should be C10.5? This is not just a ‘shrunken’ or ‘enlarged’ blade, depending on your perspective. The grip and blade have both been redesigned to be an intermediate size between the Delica and Endura. The Endura doesn’t fit my hands, and I always preferred the R or Stretch ergonomically. The Endela fits my hands just as nicely as my Stretch. I hope this design does well, to warrant cool colors and steels. I think I might want to hold out for such a variation.

Spyderco 2019 Production Sample – Dragonfly 2 Emerson Opener

#10

Post by Mr Blonde »

When the sun’s out and the shorts come out, there’s a Dragonfly clipped to my pocket. They’re as easy to carry as pocket lint, and boy do they cut! You might not realize it, but with regular XL sized hands you can get a full grip on this little folder, and it’s very practical. Living in an urban area, a Dragonfly can take care of any practical cutting chore. This emerson opener variant is great if you like that thick spined spear point tip, and also of course if you’re looking for a quick opening ‘let go device’.

Spyderco 2019 Production Sample – Dragonfly 2 Wharncliffe

#11

Post by Mr Blonde »

The wharncliffe Spyderco Delica was popular enough to bring out an Endura with a big ‘wharnie’ blade, and now we can look forward to a Dragonfly 2 with a wharncliffe blade. Personally, I prefer the ‘wharnie’ in a smaller blade. An original Kiwi has been my office folder for over 10 years now. I’ll definitely add this lil’ big wharncliffe to my everyday carry rotation!

Thank you so much for this very exciting thread!! (Says me, but not my wallet... ;) )

The Endela really is a must have for me... like a dream coming true. Endura and Delice fit my hand very well, but the former is a bit to long in the pocket, the latter just a tad short when it comes to actual edge. The Endela fixes that, I guess. Only (nitpicky) "flaw": The blade does not seem to fill all of the handle when the knife is closed (much like it is with the Delica), is that correct? It´s hard to see on the pics.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I was really hoping for the new Police 4 to be VG-10. That’s too bad guess I’ll pass on it. :(
