Today Was Sharpening Day

I find sharpening tedious at times, but most of the time, I find it strangely soothing and relaxing. Today was sharpening day for some of my Spyderco knives. Do you guys like sharpening?

I actively enjoy it. I only have whetstones but I'll listen to something while I'm grinding away. Every now and then I'll see if a buddy or two could use a nice edge

I thoroughly dislike it, 90% of the time. Especially reprofiling.

Most times, I find sharpening both enjoyable and relaxing. For me, there's a great deal of satisfaction in taking a dull knife and turning it into a razor.

When things don't go well it can be pretty frustrating though.

I reckon sharpening is like mowing lawns or washing vehicles. I put it off for as long as I can and find it quite satisfying when it's done.

I like sharpening, but dislike reprofiling. I enjoy the results of it though.

Getting a super sharp edge on a knife is always satisfying.

Yeah, I like sharpening as much as I enjoy the knives themselves. Maintaining focus while doing long reprofiling jobs can get tedious. Sometimes I’ll return to refine the edge apex over several short sessions.

Here’s a friend’s Dragonfly which comes in from time to time for a sharpening:

I enjoy it, but need to have the time for it and be in the mood for it ... which isn't always. Feel much the same about cooking.

Yes, I should have been more specific. Touching up after reprofiling is a pleasure. :)

I've gotten really lazy since using the Sharpmaker more often. I used to reprofile every new knife practically before I even used it but now I just maintain them until the edge starts getting thick. Touch ups are quick and easy most of the time so I don't mind, but I also make it a point to touch them up after every use so they never really need much.

Reprofiling? Ugh!

Maintaining an edge on the SharpMaker? Satisfying.

Bettering an edge freehand? A matter of Zen that captivates me often.

i find that sharpening is almost as relaxing as playing my guitar. And it provides a tangible result. The appreciation of a job well done. I hope it never becomes tedious. But i am sure the S110V will be the one that foes it!!! :D

Started reprofiling my Tenacious last night, using my lansky system. Got it set to about 16 dps, and went to work. I really messed up the edge on a stone, so I'm getting it back slowly. I decided to order the extra coarse and coarse diamond stones to make the process go quicker haha! I'll continue to use the other ceramic stones after the coarse diamond though, they do put a nice finish on a blade!

I actually stayed up way later than I should have, just working the stone. Really relaxing.

I don't like getting out my stones or cleaning up the kitchen when I'm done. But when I do, I'm always blown away by the results. Sometimes I'll finish, and the bevel will look gorgeous under great magnification. Other times, the knife will be crazy sharp, but I'll have ideas about how to make it even better "next time." But the real joy is whipping out a knife, whether it's an EDC or kitchen cutlery, and gently slicing through whatever the blade encounters.
