I like the idea Darby. I picked up something similar this year. 4.3" of 5/32 Cruwear.
That is an outstanding knife. Enjoy!

My vote for handle scales would be a tan or brown like the temperance 2. A more coarse finish would be great especially if it keeps cost down.

Any thoughts on the color ( green OK?) and finish of the Micarta and the type of sheath?

sal
Green is good, but what kind of material? Canvas, burlap or paper? I voted for canvas. As for finish, I think that rougher (like 220 - 400 grit) could be a bit better as a complete smooth finish.
For sheath, It doesnt really matter, whatever keeps the cost down.

Just to bump the thread I’d love and therefore happily buy the bushcraft as a scandi grind in cru or 3v with micarta, colour of your choosing although green, black OR shaman brown
Likewise the proficient as it’s currently too speedy for me
BUT I’d also take in 01 if you did another run!!!!
Andy
Necker - Ladybug Hawkbill Salt
Mon-Fri - Delica4 in Cruwear
Sat-Sun - Para3 in Cruwear

Urban K390 (2.61"), Bow River (for slicing jerky)

Want to try- PM2 CF M4 OR Cruwear , GB2, Bradley Bowie
Gone - Delica ZDP189, PM2 Cruwear, Para3 LW BD1N, Para3 S30V, Junction, Ti UKPK

That sure is a nice, clean design. Honestly, I can't find any issues to pick at. Great acquisition!

I don't use fixed blades much but I would love a micarta Bushcraft to match my Shaman.

Evil, would you take scandi over FFG?
Cuz scandi is not very appealing to me.

I've somehow completely missed this thread??

Lately I've been over in the off-topic section playing around with the idea of my perfect fixed blade. Darby's right on, a Golden made FFG Proficient in
Cru-wear (or 3V) in either green matte canvas Micarta (1st) or natural matte canvas Micarta (2nd) would me a must buy for me! The dimensions are perfect! I've found some great knives in this category from other manufacturers but I'd much rather buy and own a Spyderco!

Sorry Darby......I added the made in Golden part! And I'd be fine with either Cru-wear, 3V, A2, or O1.

I honestly don't think I've ever owned a scandi grind that I can remember so it's a curiosity, especially for what I typically use fixed blades for but I certainly wouldn't be turned away by FFG.

Outside woodwork, scandi pretty much sux. I don't have to tell you anything new about geometry, but scandi is the thicknest grind that you can get.
And still, there are differences in scandi. Puukos have some insane grinds, my one finish puuko has around 17° inclusive bevel.
Most of time is scandi around 22-26° inclusive. Anything above is just waste of steel IMO.
And also using stock more then 3 mm is waste....

FFG is better for all around wood knife, when you want to use for food prep and so on. For wood whitling scandi is better.

If the knife is going to be on the pricier side due to the labor in the scales, I’d say go for a pricier multi colored micarta like OD green and black. Also, I’m a fan of the Boltaron sheaths as well especially if it is cross compatible with the Proficient and Bushcraft.
I like Dazen's suggestion of using the two color micarta -- but I would be more than happy with any: brown, burlap, canvas, blue, green.

FFG for sure.

Cruwear, or maybe 3V -- but I would favor Cruwear.

Shame on me. I missed this thread multiple times.
Don’t one a bushcraft yet. I do have several knives from other company’s and are very interested in a FFG Spyderco with micarta scales and 3V or Cruwear for reasons already mentioned in this thread by others.

I like a rough finish of the handle because of the grippy feel. Drawback I experienced is that the handle can get wet a bit. Smooth handles have the exact opposite. So either one is fine for me.

I like Kydex sheets and leather sheets as long as it fits the knife perfectly. The waterway sheath I find a good example of excellent build quality on this aspect.

As for color of the handle my preference goes to blue denim. Better visible in the woods. However green is also a good option.

Just my 2 cents.

Right now I am in process of making my own Proficient out of O2 steel.....but I still want to buy one in Cru-Wear.

How about a Cruwear Temperance w/ Green Canvas Micarta? :-)
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.
