McBee Super-Deep Carry

Continued from this thread:

Before I begin, I would like to extend an apology for the quality of these photos. I used what I had access to & this is what I was able to come up with. Also, I wanted to get the information out to y'all A.S.A.P.

Early January, I purchased 2 McBees. The stock clip leaves a substantial amount of knife exposed & in danger of "flippin' out". I really didn't want these little guys going MIA, so I ordered a couple deep carry clips. I had found 2 people that were using MXG Gear deep carry clips, but they were both using the 2 screw version. I wanted to use 3 points of contact like the stock clip, so I ordered: #102101
I had previously emailed MXG, and they responded that the clips were not compatible. Fine, we'll have to do some light modding.
Image
I keyholed the top hole on the clip to get it to fit. I used a 1/16 cobalt drill bit & used a reaming motion.
Image
Image
And here are some comparison shots vs. the standard clip.
Image
The clip extends past the scale, so you actually gain a tiny bit of grip. My middle finger rests perfectly in the clip dip.
Image
Mission accomplished. Deep carry, 3 points of contact, titanium, with much less chance of "flippin' out" during carry. I chose this style clip because I liked how it's round hole tied in with the blade's trademark round hole. The color of this Ti clip perfectly matches the hardware on the McBee. I used the stock screws because the upgraded clip is the same thickness as the stock clip & the screws included with the ti clip do not match the rest of the hardware. And now for some parting glamour shots:

Now I'm left wondering, should I mount a lanyard through the stock lanyard tube? Or should I just hang it off the clip?
Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

Neat mod. I love my 2 screw deep carry clip. For your lanyard I would suggest using the stock lanyard hole and using snake knots to give you more purchase for your grip

This is awesome! I have several of this specific clip so I think I’ll do your mod to my mcbee right now. Thanks!

Very nice mod, but isn't it small enough to just put in your pocket?

Thanks everybody.
For the lanyard i'm thinking a few snake knots, then a ti bead, then a crown knot. A length of paracord with a break-away barrel clasp makes it a nice dogtag/neck knife. The new clip lets it hang better on the paracord. I have not pocket carried it, except for testing it out. I'm glad i switched the clip so it's always ready for pocket carry.

Just thinking out loud....when I first received this model, I envisioned filling the speed/lightening holes flush with some glow powder/epoxy. I might still do it but I'm worried it will be difficult to remove if I don't want the glow any more....

Glow bead instead?

I think that is a great mod if it suits you. It seems, for my use, you have made a small knife larger. In any case, it is a good job.

Good idea.
I need to get a few of those silicone AAA flashlight diffusers to use as a mold so i can make the glow beads.

Yes it does make the knife bigger, but I think it's a good tradeoff to secure the knife.

Before I even ordered the knives, I knew that i would be teaming the two up. Perfect, compact, business suit carry.

Doesn't seem like much should really protrude from the pocket in stock configuration- there's under 2.5 inches of total handle. I just can't get into that knife, it's a we little thing with 3mm thick blade, seems unnecessary. Are people doing "hard use" with a 1.5" bladed 2 finger grip knife? I prefer little knives to be slicey and agile.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)
