Salty Kapara?

Post by Forest Green »

Any interest in a light weight LC200N kapara? Would it be FRN or G10? Lockback or compression? Personally I would love a Salty Kapara.

This would be interesting. I'd go with G-10 and compression lock.

Has there been any serious testing comparing S30V to LC200N? Is the edge retention about the same? If so, then would it be feasible to entirely replace the S30V base models with LC200N? I think people may like that change even if the whole knife isn't 100% rust-proof.

FRN Comp-lock.
If they can make a native LW salt
And a para 3 Lw
And a Kapara

They can make a Kapara LW Salt

I’d love for EVERY Spyderco model to be LC200N! :)

Everyday Commentary likens it to 154CM for performance. Based on that I don’t think it will hold an edge like S30V.

I would have mixed feelings about replacing S30V across the board. I don’t really struggle with rust prevention at all. But on the other hand 154CM and VG-10 work fine for me and are easier to sharpen.

Kapara lightweight in FRN: Great! Backlock: Great! Steel: Don´t care if S30V or LC200N, the former is totally fine with me, the latter I have no experience with. Total rustproofness is not a need of mine though.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

An LC200N blade would seem to make sense for the Kapara, given its design intent for food prep. Possibly giving up some edge retention in exchange for extreme corrosion resistance would be a good trade off, IMO. As far as totally “Saltifying” the design; sounds good in theory, but I'm thinking it would involve a lot of behind the scenes work by Spyderco. I wouldn’t mind seeing Salt versions of all the models I like, but that doesn’t mean it’s practical for all of them.

As far as handle material, smooth is key to this design. No crevices or indents where bits of food can get lodged.
