Got lucky at the Louisville Gun Show....

#1

Post by OldHoosier62 »

Normally don't get to walk around at the shows but it was a bit slow and I was bored. Took a stroll and happened on the last table to see a set of Spyderco Gunting knives, one 440V live blade and one Red trainer (trainer has a collectors number.)...no prices, so I expected the worst when I asked but was told an unbelievable price...$175,00 for the set...no boxes. Seller said I was the first person in 3 years to ask about them , let alone know what they were. They are definitely legit and not clones and in near mint condition. I'm very happy now that I had time to walk around and check things out.

I promptly purchased the pair and made arrangements to purchase a couple of other knives (REKAT Sifu and Carnivore) from him via mail (didn't have enough cash on me).

Who says you can't find a bargain at the Gun Show??? LOL

No such luck for me, they always act like a Delica is a $200 knife.

There are a couple guys at the shows here that sell Spyderco along with other brands. Based on what they're charging, I assume they're buying them from an online dealer for the same price I do. I don't comment or balk at their prices (they seem like nice guys) but I can't imaging they sell too many either.
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!

I've got a lucky a couple of times at gunshows in the UK (Yes, we have such things- nothing like the US, but still...)

Best was I picked up a brand new, in the original white box with all the papers C50 Centofante for £75 cash on the nail ;)
This was a dealer with that vast array of gas-station folders and pot-metal machetes too.
Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.

Sounds like a great score.

I’ve always paid full price, exorbitant shipping and exchange rates in most cases plus 10% tax on top since it was introduced here in the middle of last year.

Nice score! The Gunting is a really unique model. Could you share a picture of the set?

I've never had luck at a gun show, but there is a local gun shop with a stupid good knife section. They have discontinued Busses and Swamp Rats, Bark Rivers, Chris Reeves, and over 50 Spydercos including discontinued models like the Starmate and ATS55 Police in G10. I swing by there at least once a month to see what they've got.

They also have a $20 and under bin where I've scored some awesome traditionals for much less than they could be sold for. A few I even bought with the intention of cleaning up then posting online for 2-3x what I paid. Fun way to make some money!

I'll have to post them later tonight or tomorrow sometime. I won't be home until late this evening.

I've never had good luck finding Spydies at gun shows. They usually ask as much or more than the online dealers. Look forward to seeing your pics.

I got a dragonfly 2 plain edge at a flea market for 15.00 once. Never had a better deal ever!

That’s a killer deal on the pair!

Yeah I believe they've gathered a considerable amount of dust.
