Holy cow! Now those are some beautiful mules! I knew you had a few nice ones, but dang!
Thank you. The one on the left belongs to my son, but I had to throw it in for a family shot.

In anticipation of new steels we'll see on some mules, I cleaned up this past years handle projects to make room for what's to come. :D

Anything is possible. But there must be enough demand so we don't lose our shirts creating the Piece.

sal
Sal,
Would it make sense to do a pre order window of 1-3 months? Then produce what was paid for in a given time frame. This would keep you from “losing your shirt”.

What is the minimum number to run a mule? I would hope this number could be reached with pre orders.
More CBBL please!

Pre-orders sound like a really good idea. Spyderco could even do a conditional pre-order where they just didn't move the knife into production if there weren't enough orders placed, and just refunded everyone (or didn't charge them at all).

Pre-orders would also defeat the flipping that plagued some of the popular models. No need to jump on line and try to get in on the release when all (or most?) of the units are pre-sold.

Kind of like a MuleTeam club?🤔

I definitely like the idea of preorders.

This is a fantastic idea. A Kickstarter-like conditional pre-order should help Spyderco amortize the cost.

One issue with "crowd-funding" a run is when buyers start to expect ownership of the project. If the run turns out to be a flop for some reason (remember the ZDP mule?), there is a bigger PR fallout on top of the materials and labor overhead.

I think it could work for Spyderco, but the more need stories I read about "disgruntled" consumers who pre-order something, then feel entitled to demand that production should meet their demanding and arbitrary expectations, the less I am interested in crowd funding. I'm quite satisfied with what Spyderco puts out on their own terms.

I would too.
I came to Spyderco too late for all but the last couple Mules. I'd love to be able to experiment with and test all these new steels coming out.

Anyone have a guess on what steel MuleTeam 28 will be? SPY27, S45VN or Rex45?

CPM REX121 sits at 10%...

18 % is very interesting indeed.

Mule team 28 is shown as coming soon in SPY27. I also recall seeing mule 30 listed as s45vn on a coming soon post.

I think the s45vn mule is MT31, it's a mystery as to what MT29 and MT30 will be. Maybe the 18% tungsten is a hint? X185WVCoMoCr? :spyder:

Hi Josh,

Welcome to our forum.

We have no plans at this time to use Vanax. We may in the future, but it would probably be a Mule Team to see reaction to the materials. I have a Vanax Mule Team (proto) in my kitchen that I use regularly. I'm familiar with the material.
