lego handles...?

#1

Post by ladybug93 »

i finally proved today that the lw spydercos do not have lego brick handles. i was turned away from admission into legoland amusement park because i was carrying my native 5 salt. i was allowed to enter, but only after returning my knife to my car in order to keep it from carrying out the terror attack it's been secretly planning from my pocket for the last couple of months.
as i casually placed my edc into the tray before passing through the metal detectors (that's right... metal detectors... at legoland amusement park), security guard 1 (let's just call him tweedle dee) lunged forward with far more zeal than the situation warranted and proudly proclaimed, "this is why we're here!"
before the whole encounter was over, i had to answer for my edc pen as well. security guard 2 (you guessed it... tweedle dum) actually asked me if my pokka pen was, "one of those defensive pens." if you haven't seen the pokka pen, look it up. it's tiny and i frequently make the joke that it looks like a tampon. but it might be a defensive pen in the eyes of moronic security guards.

anyway, if any knife was going to pass for a lego brick, it's the native 5 salt. it's bright yellow and has squared edges that everyone complains about on the native and manix lightweights. no dice though. nothing can get past those over-zealous security guards and their mission to stomp on the freedom of citizens for the sake of "company policy."
so, let it be settled. the lw spyderco knives are definitely not lego bricks.

Lol, I guess I'll leave my recon 1 XL in the car.

Think they'd allow a McBee?

from what i hear, all amusement parks are like this now. i’m not sure what they think is going to happen with a pocket knife. i’m getting real sick of all the fear in our society. it’s a knife. most people use one every day. most people cut something at least once a day with some kind of sharp object. it’s stupid to be afraid of a pocket knife.

we’ve gotten too comfortable as a culture. we can’t fathom the necessity of anything beyond a smart phone and a debit card.

Hmm, I took my nephews to Legoland here in DFW and I'm sure I had a knife in my pocket that day. I don't remember any metal detectors either. It was over a year ago so maybe they've changed their policies.

They had metal detectors at the amusement park I went to last summer(not Legoland). The security staff was mostly teenage kids though. It just didn't seem right to me.

I am glad and thankfull that where I live there are still very liberal knife-laws, especially for Europe.
I can carry any knife almost anywhere except big sports events sometimes.

That said, I had to go to court as a witness recently and to submit my PM2 to the guard there temporarely. Really not an issue for I obviously did not need a pocket knife while testifying, but still it felt weired to be "knifeless"...

I did a job for a client this week and somehow forgot both my Spyderco knife and my rear pocket SAK. I realized it the first time I reached for it to cut something and it wasn’t there. It felt really weird. I had my retractable utility knife and the Classic on my keys, but I still felt sort of naked without my work folder. Good thing I’m not attracted to knife-free venues.

I tend to agree with the security guard there. If a place has metal detectors, clearly they don't want you bringing a knife in. Seems fairly obvious. I think it's funny you just thought you could casually slide a knife through. That would be like trying to casually drive around the cops at a DUI checkpoint. lol

I put my knife in my wife's purse and retrieve it after security.

there wasn’t anything posted outside that said you couldn’t have a pocket knife. they could just be screening for actual weapons since concealed carry of firearms is allowed in the state. i placed the knife in the tray casually because i wasn’t trying to hide anything. it’s a tool. it’s not a weapon any more than anything else i can find around me if i find myself in a bad spot.

Not too long ago I went with a few friends to the new Guinness brewery outside of baltimore. We took an Uber and I had my Ouroboros clipped to my pocket. They ID outside of the building and those people also act as security screeners and they said that I couldn't bring in the knife (the clip was visible). I said "Ok I'll go put it in my car" and walked around the wall, and buried it in the mulch out front. In retrospect, they didn't bother really checking if I still had it, so I could have merely unclipped it and put it back into my pocket. I'll remember to keep it deep pocket if I ever go back there, but I retrieved it with no problem.

My wife once realized that she was about to take her Tenacious into a government building (with full metal detector and security screening). She didn't have her car either, so went to the coffee shop, into the bathroom, and wrapped her knife in a paper towel and wedged it into the drain pipes under the sink. When she was done she went back and retrieved it.

I was turned away from entering the Arch in St. Louis last year because of my Domino. We had parked about 1-1/2 miles away so I had to hide it in some shrubs along the walkway along the river. I took some pictures of the spot where I buried it, along with a couple of other landmarks to identify the location and had a fun time with my kids giving them an fun little scavenger hunt to find it.

I once walked into security at an American embassy in a foreign nation with a small, locking two blade traditional in my pocket. After a bit of surprise by the uptight American from northern big city climes because the blade locked, I joked, "Hey, what do you expect? I'm just a Southern redneck." He laughed and I left it at security and got it on my way out. It could have turned out badly, though, but did not because of the way I handled it. I've even been caught with a knife and a near sword at airport security. The long, near sword was a wedding gift, so when I explained I was allowed to go and mail it to myself. The knife I had to leave at the concierge and have a friend come and pick it up for me.
