Spyderco Okapi?

Post by SpyderEdgeForever »

What is the liklihood and who here would like to see Spyderco collaborate with or make a version of the African Okapi Folder Knife?

I would be down for one. But it would have to be on Spyderco’s level. Solid cf and a premium steel(s90v).

Never heard of it, had to look it up. Definitely not for me. I can’t really find anything about the design that I like.

As a South African i think it's a pretty neat idea.
That and a great way to see how spyderco would make a super traditional knife

I think it could possibly fit in the ethnic series.
How would spyderco make it theirs?

The soul of the Okami is in the locking mechanism. Buck essentially already did that lock design with the Marksman. Would Spyderco do it, too?

IMO it's a cumbersome cheap knife. Not sure what Spyderco would be able to do with a sow's ear to be honest.

I don't know if i have been unlucky or if they all come the way my 2 did (yes, two.. One took sso long to arrive i assumed it was lost and ordered another one, of course both arrived eventually)
When i got them the edge was insignificantly sharper than the spine.. I don't get how the can pass the whole assembly/packaging process virtually edgeless?!

I'm having trouble understanding how that lock works. More specifically, how one would go about unlocking it. Cold Steel made something similar but theirs had a ring that you pull to unlock it.

The two pictured do not lock. They are slip joints. There is a model(907e) that locks (straplock) and does have a ring to pull.

Oh. Thanks for the explanation. It's a neat design for a slip joint. They have a unique style that would fit in with the ethnic knives. I don't know that there'd be a big demand for them though.

I certainly would not be interested. I am certain there are better knife designs from a continent as big as Africa and as many countries as there are on that continent.

I have one (or a knockoff, not sure, got it used). Did not come very sharp but sharpened up ok and it is an interesting design. I think a spyderco version would be kind of neat.

Dug mine out. I think it may be a knockoff as the point was practically blunt, but I did manage to sharpen the edge up ok in the past if I remember. Here it is next to the Spyderco military...
I think the design is neat aesthetically but the build quality (if mine is real) is pretty lackluster...
