frn/frcp can crack and chip if dropped. i’ve never dropped g10, so i can’t make a comparison. i have a significant chip out of my native salt handle from dropping it on asphalt from waist level.

i would still recommend the lightweight though. it’s a great knife. when i ordered mine, i didn’t expect to live it as much as i do. mine is the xhp exclusive from knifecenter, so it has a brown handle. not my favorite, but the color didn’t matter once i had it in my hand. the manix 2 lw is seriously perfect as an edc knife. well, almost... if it wasn’t pinned, i’d like it better than i do. i wish spyderco would stop making them this way. i’d buy another immediately in almost any steel if they had screws. i should add that taking a manix apart is no small task. it’s a pain, but it’s doable.

for that reason, and a few others, i find myself wanting a g10 version as well. not sure if i’ll ever get one or not though because i’m already leaving knives i want to carry at home as it is. the yojimbo has filled my g10 desires for now.

g10 or frcp... both are good choices. decide if you want to be able to take it apart or if you want lighter weight. some people don’t care for the metal jimping on the liners of the g10 version, so there’s another consideration. personally, i like both versions.

are you blaming me or Jesus? it’s unclear in your post.

why are you so irritated with someone asking questions? maybe everyone can’t afford to buy every knife they might like to see if it fits. maybe they have to ask a lot of questions before dropping so much money. wouldn’t it be better for a person to know everything they wanted to know about something before spending their hard earned money on it?

If you had been paying attention, you would have seen this was an extremely drawn out thread, with many members beginning to feel a bit irritated after answering many of the same questions over and over again. He finally made his decision today, a concrete decision. Then you chime in with something questionable like that after he made his decision. No need for it.

OP..we all truly hope you enjoy your Manix 2 LW and await your thoughts on it after carrying it!

Unfortunately for you, you're not responsible for making the OP's decision. OP was asking questions to make sure he buys the right knife. It's a subjective level of investment for everyone.
Also, it's 100% your choice to continue to read and participate in this thread but for some reason you want to make it seem like OP is doing something wrong by asking questions. Seriously, just get over it because it really isn't a big deal.

Well Nick...it's the fact that he had finally made his decision, then the ladybug decided to throw a possible wrench in his decision. Had nothing to do with asking questions at this
point...he made up his mind. He came a long way, then made his choice...no need for an after the fact negative opinion. Let the OP be happy with his decision and roll from there.

Your post may have been relevant a few pages ago, at this point...your post, the time has passed. No need to back up the ladybug, OP's made up his mind.

Very last question should I get g10 or light weight

I think if I were you I'd opt for the LW version. I have heard of G-10 chipping when dropped. FRCP is much more durable in this regard, I believe.
you are right... any opinion on duability of frcp v. g10 is irrelevant today.

if you don’t want to be a part of this thread anymore than don’t. that’s the only part of this equation that’s in your control.

Hey Cao87, to be honest you’ll be happy with any Manix 2. Mine is a Cruwear, it was my first Spydie. I was so impressed with it, that it led to a collection. Years later I still go back to it and carry and use it often.

To the folks now arguing about this thread, keep in mind not only can this be a harder decision for some,if I recall from earlier in the discussion this guys in Canada like me. Knives are harder to get, come at a premium and take longer to ship so the decision becomes even more difficult.
However this discussion has certainly gone on longer than most might seem necessary. Almost to the point it might seem like a troll thread. Op asked for advice and received it, then seemingly ignored it and started again. Then back and forth on the choices. I’ve stuck with it assuming he’s just not good at making decisions but have laughed out loud a couple times now when I log in and the same stuff is being rehashed.

You'd think buying the cheapest, lightest, most basic, entry-level knife in the line would be easy...
Don't jump into the more expensive manix until you've got a good idea of what to expect.

The answers have been fairly consistent over this and yet it keeps getting asked.

I'm on the verge of outright calling cao a troll

Hi Cao,

Congratulations. Very interesting thread. Please don't take this the wrong way. Do you always have such difficulty in making a decision?

As has been mentioned a few times; You really don't know enough about knives at this time to make an informed decision. The world of knives is a very interesting and deep world. You must have some interest or you wouldn't be here. I'm glad that you made a decision. If you are still here in the future and you have more experience, you will be better able to determine what you like and what you don't like and that's what most of these discussions are about. All good, just different.

If I recall correctly you went with the Salt 2, which is a back lock and doesn't need to break in.

I have heard the spring tension is strong.
But it will wear over time. It just depends on how often you're opening/ closing the knife.
I'd play with it on your off time to expedite the process
