Lucky with Manix 2 factory edge

Postby Bruce Mack » Tue Feb 12, 2019 1:47 pm

In August my wife gave me a blurple Manix 2 s110v for my birthday. I loved it but put it away, not looking forward to reprofiling it to a 30° inclusive angle. Yesterday I inked the edge, ready for the chore, but the ink completely disappeared and the bevel shone after a few passes on the Sharpmaker brown rod. After the fine rod and stropping the edge is great. I did have to reprofile the PM2 and the Endura as the angle of each was >30°. I know this is an old topic but, IMO, Spyderco should try to give each blade a 30° edge. I see no downside to this as those who want a more obtuse angle can just add a micro bevel.

Pretty sure 30 is their goal, but it seems like there must be some variables in how they ultimately end up. Since they're done by a robot now you'd think they would be more consistent but it seems to still vary, especially with country of origin (since Japan for example may not do robot).
