Bring Back the Hollow Grind

#1

Post by difkat »

When using the new Endura (Sabre Grind, VG-10), for food preparation particularly delicate peeling & making thin slices, it doesn't perform as good as the older hollow ground one.

Perhaps it's due to the extra mass of bevel, somewhat interfering with the flow of cutting, especially for delicate cuttings.

I'm sure the change from Hollow to Sabre Grind is to strengthen the edge. However, for all intends & purposes, I believe the Hollow Grind fulfilled the requirements.

Having said that, I hope Spyderco would revert to Hollow Grind for Endura & Delica. Of course, maintain or better the VG-10...

I too preffer the hollow grind against the flat one. Didn't notice significant differrences in cutting, but sharpening seems easier. Maybe it's just an impression.

I used to like hollow grind and still like the looks of hollow but the cutting preformance of a full flat grind won me over.

I learn something new everyday, even though I don't want to. Jeff
