Re: Which Knife Steels Have the Best Corrosion Resistance
My two favorite are corrosion resistance and high sharpness followed by easy sharpening, Looks like I am VG-10 and LC200N.

Your data in a chart, Larrin, hope you don't mind.

I like those also.
Re: Which Knife Steels Have the Best Corrosion Resistance
That looks nice. I only provide emotionless numbers. You shouldn’t call it PREN Acetic though as it is not a pitting resistance. Call it Cr-eq Acetic or something,

The obvious choices that we all have had experience with are H-1 and LC200N. I was told some time back that there is a steel called Cowry X that is supposed to have good corrosion resistant properties.
Also is it safe to assume that nitrogen based steels in general all have good corrosion resistant properties?

Re: Which Knife Steels Have the Best Corrosion Resistance
Sorry maybe a dumb question here...
But is there a reason they can't completely 100% replace Carbon with Nitrogen? Maybe I'm misunderstanding things but if you could completely remove carbon would you be able to remove any possible pitting from corrosion?

I second this. Larrin and others, what would a steel be like if it had 100 percent carbon removed, and was nitrogen and iron with chromium and others?

Re: Which Knife Steels Have the Best Corrosion Resistance
Why would 14C28N have better corrosion resistance than BD1N?

Re: Which Knife Steels Have the Best Corrosion Resistance
Part of the reason is the recommended austenitizing temperatures. 14C28N is higher. BD1N also has higher carbon.

Cowry-X is equivalent to ZDP-189.JD Spydo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 10:01 pmThe obvious choices that we all have had experience with are H-1 and LC200N. I was told some time back that there is a steel called Cowry X that is supposed to have good corrosion resistant properties.

I’m not sure assuming all nitrogen steels have good corrosion resistance is a valid assumption, especially the 0.1% conventionally produced ones. It just so happens that most steels advertised as “nitrogen steels” also have good corrosion resistance.

Re: Which Knife Steels Have the Best Corrosion Resistance
In the Vanax patent they found that leaving carbon at 0.35% improved properties including corrosion resistance. I think I explained why in the nitrogen steel article I wrote.

Wow all that knife for only $16.99 How will Spyderco Ever compete with that?
