Well I just received my new Cold Steel War Hawk and just paid $45 dollars with free shipping, took it out and chopped some old tough logs it worked great.

The HatchetHawk works great as a carving axe. Indeed, it was one of the things that were part of the design idea. I've used it for all manner of carving already; mainly spoons and edge covers for axes. It's lightweight, balanced, but hits with enough authority.
