Unclad HAP40 Sprint

With the success of the HAP40/SUS410 Sprint perhaps it's time for an unclad HAP40 Sprint. As for FRN color I'm thinking June Bud.

I’ve refrained from buying cladded blades since getting the SB Stretch sprint. Consequently, I’ve missed out on several great Japanese steels, including HAP40.

I’d be all over uncladded HAP40, even in FRN, which I like far less than G10.

Is there anything that you dislike about cladding? I don't mind it personally.

It’s softer outer steel that’s typically more stainless than the core steel. A lot of people dislike it because it scratches too easy. The scratches don’t bother me anymore.

You're aware of the current Rex 45 craze, right? It's basically hap40 on steroids considering the heat treat, and is unlaminated.

Have you tried the Murray Carter method of sharpening where you lie the blade flat on the stones and polish? I'm learning how to freehand and the knives I have done that to just looked scuffed up. For the record, I have not done this to any of my Spydercos (I do have a CS Endura in Hap40) yet. I'm learning on a cheap Tangram knife.

I'm not so much worried about the performance as much as the novelty of a solid slab. Plus, Seki sprints are fun.

I have not tried that and don't really see the need to. Like I said, the scratches don't bother me. If they did I suppose I'd be polishing them out like Muray Carter does.

I have several blades with cladding. These two are probably my most carried and used. I have a VG10 Delica that looks similar to these.

well, given that this would come from Japan, and they seem to always clad hap40 there, it seems unlikely, unfortunately.

I prefer the cladding. I wish my Police 4 was cladded.
