Standard Protocol is for industrial parts not knives. Tweaking the protocol can let us use the building blocks this steel offers but with more Stability than with the industrial heat treatment which is not made for thin knife cross sections.

While 15v is very strong, I'm sure with lateral shock loads it will fail. Also not going to be a great steel for impact choppers, I'd also avoid prying, yet these are things a small cutting knife rarely sees if in competent hands.

Making a steel better at prying, lateral shock, and impact sacrifices the EDGE cutting performance. Would have to drop in alloy. Increase Geometry, reduce hardness. This may give us a lower performance edge that rounds over fast, more prone to deformation when a steel like 15v would just hold shape. So it's a trade off, as always, increasing raw tougheness will lead to more plastic failure at the edge with hard use and will need consistent maintenance.

So sometimes raw strength is more durable depending on application, user and stability of the steel and HT.

There are tons of options out there for "beaters" and sharpened pry bars. Not nearly as many options pushing the envelope in regard to cutting performance as you and others are providing, Shawn.

Those who give it some thought, (regarding their intended usage), should be able to find just the right flavor to suit their taste.
Or they can split the difference by finding a blade which is an excellent all around performer, jack of all trades, without being the best in any one single category but the "all around". Sort of like a decathlon or heptathlon champion. Not the best in any particular event, but the best overall.

Yes, it's important to try to put things in context for people to understand how things fit together. Everything has trade offs and it's always facinating seeing how things stack up. It's not very intuitive it seems. There are a lot of things to factor in.

Steel sounds like a real winner, especially with what BBB is doing with it. A BBB/Spyderco collab would be awesome, fixed or folder.

Daydreaming of a backlock nano trapper in 15V that stays true to BBB handmades heat treat and geometry.

Can this be the “knife afi” model? A BBB / Spyderco Collaboration of a Nano Trapper in 15V? Crazy thin behind the edge and friendly enough to EDC??

That would be fun,
I sent a different design over to Sal though. More, when the time comes.

My prefernce would be to make Shawn's design in Shawn's preferred steel. It's a folder.

I'd bet whatever design it is performance is going to be one of the priorities. I'm in if it gets made no matter what design and lock is chosen. I'd say it should be a can't miss. I'd like to start saying " It should have... features" but I won't. I don't feel like I need to do that on this. It will be well thought out and performance oriented yet down to earth at the same time. Just how I want them. :)

I sent Sal the CAD drawings for the folding design I created. You know me too well Joe :D
